@nanyar Hi Mario, welcome back. I like the lighting in this image. Not sure what can be changed to improve this image, but in my opinion I think that instead of space on the left it would have been better to have more space on the right. Not sure what you think. Look forward to seeing more of your works here 🙂

Gordon James replied to the topic B&W night shot in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 9y, 8mo ago
OK, thanks @nanyar. The issue with the original was, to my mind, the lack of contrast between the mannequin and the background – once reduced to tone only it was all very similar. It also doesn’t particularly look like a night shot – dull, yes, but not nocturnal.
I was rather hoping that streetlights might have offered an orange background,…[Read more]

@nanyar – thanks for your comments. I tend to take shots only when I’m on vacation. This was a shot that I liked, so I wanted to get feedback from photogs more accomplished than me. Since at least a year lapses between my shots, I have to be retrained.
A more recent shot was the one I posted a week or so ago – Park Avenue, Arches NPCheck It Out

Hi @nanyar. I take your point about this still looking a little flat. Could you post the original colour version? It could help us see what other options you might have? Also, what processing have you used so far for the conversion?Check It Out

Gordon James replied to the topic Low key – comments appreciated in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 9y, 8mo ago
@nanyar – if that’s your first attempt at editing for low-key I think you’ve done a pretty good job. Many people make the mistake of assuming ALL the tones have to be darkened to mid-tome or the left, resulting in a very flat image. Here you have retained some lighter tones to lift the image a little.
Dead black works OK for the background, but I…[Read more] -

I agree with @nanyar I don’t care for the flag/rag at all. Everything else is so nice it might be worth the trouble to clone it and the rope totally out of the shot. I would like to see it without the two architectural details on the sides of the arch.Check It Out

@nanyar – I love the delicate light in the sky that you have captured here, and resisted the temptation to over-saturate. The fact that the silhouette of the window flows into the landscape at the base but is broken by the light catching the building is excellent.
It’s just that flag, if that’s what it is. It could just as easily be an old…[Read more]

The socks are great…
Two things worry me @nanyar . The whole bench and body provide strong leading lines up to the top right, which is, frankly, a bit of a mess.
But I’m also rather confused with your intention regarding the colouration. The left half of the image, particularly the bench, has a warm tone. Could be toned monochrome. But the…[Read more]

@nanyar I appreciate the input but I am happy with the composition and style it is more the editing that I am trying to improve, with what you have said I may do a colour version and see how that looks.
@tobiepsg I have Elements 11, is that a late enough version to have the Fill / Content Aware / Dissolve thing you mention or are you talking…[Read more]

@gordonjames Not a big fan of HDR to be honest, I’ve seen too many bad examples 🙂 I hadn’t spotted the high contrast area but you are right it is a distraction, you are right as well about the pole, it bothered me a little as well so I will try cropping as I prefer not to clone if I can help it. Thanks for the feedback!

@nanyar It is extremely difficult to critique abstract shots. Either you got the image you were trying to get or you didn’t.
That is probably why you’re not getting much feedback on this one. 🙂Check It Out

Here is a link to the edited photo, http://www.lightstalking.com/members/zeephototaker/album/picture/24450/
I was able to make the background a little less dark and leave the wires distinct but because it was a foggy day the sky was basically white anyway so with my editing tools I couldn’t change that, so to get around the distracting light…[Read more]

@nanyar Maybe is not the higher shutter speed but the lower aperture. If you use a low aperture in a sunny day the shutter speed will increase to compensate (if you use a lower aperture with a lower shutter speed the sensor will receive much light). Check It Out
