Thanks for the feedback, @paul-3 @robertapple @admin-2. Sorry for the delay. I wanted to give plenty of time for comment and critique before responding.
Paul, I nearly always used an ND grad on camera for my sunrise beach images. I have gone through the originals. The steps in processing aren’t there (didn’t migrate all the information from one…[Read more]

Last week, Diane flipped the switch towards the “art of less” and challenged us to embrace negative space; an equally feared and beloved compositional technique. However, the underlying principle behind ‘less is more’, requires one to understand how much can be stripped away while retaining the same message; or even a stronger one. Juggling with…[Read more]

@paul-3 Wow, that bee has really dived in deep. I love the anthers surrounding its head and the lovely white petals.

By definition, lines imply a connection between one point and another; hence the generalised understanding of lines as straight structures corresponding with such designation. From the images shared after Diane’s call on abstract lines, this one bends the aforementioned convention into a rather fluent and organic direction.

Thanks for sharing…[Read more]

I keep going back to this long exposure shot by Paul AKA @paul-3 aka bucweeet. in the Square Crop Landscape Throwdown, Love the Star Trails which in this winter scene mimic snow, the glassy smooth water and the Frozen Island.

Thanks @paul-3.
The halos only bother me a bit because to some people it might look as though I did a really bad job of burning down bright spots in the picture.
I always try to produce very natural looking images and because of this I tend to do very little work to my pictures beyond basic exposure fine-tuning, color/white balance fine-tuning…[Read more]

Posted at the challenge on transient light in the urban landscape, “not sure if this fits, but I do like the result…” and neither was I, but sure fits the photo of the week! That scratchy texture from panning and the grainy richness – probably from film – make this whole shot something hard to miss! Please Paul, tell us more about the proce…[Read more]

Great pick with your impressions on this impactful composition, Federico. Congrats on this fabulous shot @paul-3! I went on a small whale-watching boat years ago hoping to get some shots, but I only got a tail and never saw a breech. You definitely got the money shot with a rare breech captured by your quick eye and perfect settings. Timing is…[Read more]

If I was ever asked about how to define an aesthetic experience, I would likely point towards the exact moment in which my eyes came across this particular scene. In a straightforward visual kick, we encounter three fundamental principles of photographic composition.

At a glance, we spot the following right away; horizontal lines and a centred…[Read more]
