Oh It’s a very deep rabbit hole @r1ch – And it’s extremely fun when you start playing with it. I have a whole folder of images I took ONLY to use as textures. Rock walls, bricks, old graffiti, dried leaves etc.

@r1ch – The even and dispersed light is the best type of light because it muted the highlights and shadows. The iPhone really struggles in high-contrast situations and this is basically the opposite of that.

@r1ch I also know such people – I have a few colleagues here in Belgrade who behave similarly. It’s just toxic. The best thing is to ignore them. Don’t waste your time on anyone evil, stupid, frustrated, and so on. Successful photographers who are happy with their work (and life!) and have a good network of colleagues and clients make the best critics.

Love this photo of the blood moon by Rich @r1ch in the General Photo Chit Chat Forum. The clouds and the stars add a lot of interest to the image. A unique and brilliant shot in my opinion 🙂

Congratulations on your moody portrait for POTW, @r1ch! Great example of how a well-composed & executed portrait shot can capture the essence of personality. Well-deserved!

This week we had very versatile candidates!
I decided that POTW goes to @r1ch and his moody portrait.
We don’t see portraits often in our POTW section and the reason behind this is probably because I’m a portraitist myself and I have a particularly high standard regarding this genre.
This portrait is a wonderful example of what we can achieve…[Read more]

Thanks for your pointers & tripod suggestions! I’ll do some research and will definitely be putting a new solution on my next wishlist. The Gorillapod’s a new one to me, I had never heard of that.

Thanks for your thoughts & I also feel the frustration in your rant about moving targets & advice on “pop.” You’re right about different ways of interpreting of words & concepts – everyone can have their own opinion. I’ve learned enough to know that the amount of what I don’t know about post-processing is vast lol. So the best I can do is…[Read more]

Hi @r1ch, thanks, that’s good to know. I like your musician shot with the B/W duo tone effect, perfect smoky vibe for a bar scene!
On a side note, I read an article this evening about a vibrance slider saying that it’s a “smart” tool that brightens dull colors and ignores fully saturated ones. It also can be used to mute shots. Boosting vibrance…[Read more]

Hi @r1ch, it’s so good of you to give me this excellent feedback on getting accurate color. I will definitely check out the info and test out the grey card method so I can make adjustments as needed.
By the way, our annual local contest typically has three judges (different ones every year). They are introduced to us at the awards ceremony & I…[Read more]

Thanks, @r1ch! That sounds like a solid plan. For now, I’m going to learn how to maximize Elements 12 & will consider newer software as the need arises.

Hi @r1ch, thanks so much for your feedback & suggestions on post-processing. Very helpful! You’ve pointed me in the right direction, it was rather overwhelming not knowing what tools do what and when to use them. I’ll try to keep your reminder in mind about the hard part – remembering to use them! I think lots of practice forms good habits &…[Read more]
