Hi, @reg-courtenaygmail-com, please do not be put off by the rudeness of @raviputcha and @pmarione.
There are plenty of others here that are nothing like that, and provide friendly and helpful critiques.Check It Out -

Hi, @larner, it would be helpful, (re: Shark Tank Etiquette), if you told us a little about how you took the shot, camera settings, etc, when you first post the photo for critique. especially if you are new to photography.
This will help you get the advice that you need, and hopefully stop the the sarcasm and disrespectful chat between @raviputcha…[Read more] -

The 1st is not bad, maybe a vignette as suggested by @raviputcha.
Forget the 2nd one.
The 3rd one is to keep in your family album.

Sorry @raviputcha, I was having a bit of an off day and my original comments were rude. I apologize.
I can’t tell you why it’s a bad composition, it’s just my opinion.
As for the halo artifacts, I can’t be sure on that either. It may well be a natural part of the photo. I know it’s not my screen.
The second photo you posted (which I…[Read more]

From a purely technical point of view @raviputcha , there are two long standing conventions that this photograph breaks.
Converging verticals.
Haloing around the building.
Both are generally regarded as negative things, but if it’s what you were trying to achieve, then there is no problems. As you can see, my opinion on converging…[Read more]

I don’t agree with the comments above about this being a terrible composition. I actually like the concept a lot. I think it would have helped to have a very thin sliver of the ground at the bottom of the frame, or to see the people’s feet standing on the bottom of the frame. Maybe also crop the photo so that the temple is not so…[Read more]

@raviputcha , my negative comment is that I think that if you had placed the camera so that it is pointed straight on to the carvings this photo would have been better. Because it is a photo that has such a strong repetition of pattern, and one that fits very symmetrically within the frame, the fact that the perspective is slightly from the side…[Read more]

OK, @raviputcha, what’s the point? Tell me what went through your head when you saw these and what inspired you to take the photo. At the moment it is purely a descriptive photo of the detail on the columns and not a very successful one I might add, as @nikon-nut has already indicated.
Now, if you saw this structure in all,it’s original beauty…[Read more] -

Thanks @raviputcha @sabb @nikon-nut and @jonathantimar . I definitely feel the same way but needed objective opinions on this. I wanted to possibly enter one of these into a local contest held by our town. I love the black and white one but feel that people seem to like color photographs more in general.
Thank you for your…[Read more]

I think the colors are great and I agree with @raviputcha with respect to sun behind the leaves. The only thing that could have made this better would have been a graduated nd filter. Since it was taken on a whim without forethought it is what it is. I really like the contrast on the left in the leaves of the tree.Check It Out

Hi all,
Thanks for all your remarks. Concerning the vertical wall, I will check, what a lens correction might bring. But whar @sabb said is right, it’s an ancient village anyway. Concerning the colors, yes, I already tried to inforce some colors, but it did change the mood, so I kept it.

I think I agree with you @raviputcha. I’m not really happy with this one. A little flat as far as story telling goes. It could have had more going on for a photo of this type. Thanks for your comment.

It only needs adjusted to the extent of highlighting textures and differing shades of rock more. I think the change would be subtle. Another problem is to print an image it must be some what lighter. I don’t need to tell you that the backlite image that we see online is different than the one we print. The printed version is much richer in…[Read more]

@raviputcha I agree. I am learning. I really enjoy doing this sort of photography but I need to be more discerning at the site. Many times I find that when I get home the image that I have in my compact flash is not the image that I thought I was photographing. You are also correct about contrast. An image like this is all contrast and…[Read more]

Fred Furze replied to the topic Emptiness in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 6mo ago
@raviputcha I think the main thing that bothers me with this silhouette is the overlap in of the trees and architecture in some areas. Because it is a silhouette in some areas it gets confused, where I am not immediately certain if it is tree mass or architecture. In that sense maybe a slight bit of detail might have helped. Otherwise maybe a…[Read more]

Thanks @raviputcha. Not that it is relevant but I had Mozart’s Requiem playing on my car stereo. This was taken just off of the road. I only shot 25 pics. It was cool (54 degrees f) and I was worried about the park service throwing me out. It is a state park but they have been closed since the government shutdown started.

@raviputcha I have to agree about the emptyness. I think that you need some detail in the silhouette. If you recall I had the same problem with a post yesterday. I guess I don’t feel that silhouette and detail need be mutually exclusive. This is a difficult type of shot to do. I have never been 100% successful. I love the idea though. I…[Read more]

I dunno @raviputcha – I really like it with the car – gives some context to the area it was taken.
It’s pretty damn good for a first try @frogfish – well done. If you can get the blur out of those stars, it’s a good composition imho.

@raviputcha I wondered about that very thing. If I try to crop to get the subject out of the middle I don’t have enough pic left. I was not supposed to be in there so I did not get a chance to shoot more than one shot. The tour guide can in and ran me out. LOL. This was shot on slide film and handheld. I will try to edit out the ladder and…[Read more]
