I am not sure how many people out there enter work into contests, but would like to start a thread/topic where photographers can support each other in their contest submissions. I am not a fan of this picture. I have done a lot of still life myself, but I prefer to see energy in it. And MC Fowler thanks for mentioning that photo techinically is fine. I wondered about the quality there as well. I hope to get more advice on technique as well as artistry and composition.

At Mc Fowler… Haha and thank you. I certainly am no nat geo photographer. But I am trying to get better and to understand composition. Will definitely take all the constructive comments, and continue to try to figure out the difference between what’s considered good and poor composition. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for your feedback đŸ™‚ But I wonder what you think of this picture:
It’s a Nat Geo picture that seems like it’s also lacking a secondary focal point. What makes this image good enough for Nat Geo?

I like the way the green branch comes across as abstracted. Maybe if the bird was also abstract it would make the image more consistent. The contrast doesn’t bother me, I think it’s true to nature.

Playing with my zoom lens and trying to achieve a nice bokeh affect by focusing in on the marshmallow.
