Today’s post from Rob arrived in my email. It’s about Photographer’s Block–can’t think of anything to photograph. We’re all faced with that. Yesterday, we visited what was once my favorite beach. Restoration following a hurricane led them to haul away the fallen trees (The Boneyard) from the more accessible locations, leaving a simply open beach.…[Read more]

Burned down by British troops during the American Revolution, rebuilt then burned down by Union troops during the American Civil War. Site is maintained by the local diocese that owns the ruins and property. The fence is relatively new–a couple of years old, waist high making it hard to climb over. Until it was built, visitors could wander the…[Read more]

The cloud storage version has always seemed to me a no go for the more serious. 20 gb? That goes really fast leaving you with the option to rent a bigger cloud or downloading the pictures-which you could have bypassed with classic. The attraction of the cloud is the ability to show and edit at home or away/mobile. This seems designed for the…[Read more]

Camera in hand and mind attending to light and shape quiets the demons.

Newby and a good image as in “even a blind chicken sometimes finds the kernel.” Straight out of the camera, it was stark but several years of post processing experience enhanced the details that I only then became aware of–that beckoned to me from the original developed image. And, as I said, that commenter from years ago told…[Read more]

There are times I feel that I’m almost cheating, just using Lightroom’s masking functions. Still, I have seen many images with exposure that an AI would almost certainly judge to be wrong wrong wrong or scenes the AI would probably fail to identify as “of interest” within a large scene. On top of that, many of us derive pleasure from employi…[Read more]

Thank you. As I said in the profile, getting out is the challenge. Foggy conditions are among my favorite. As you say, they desaturate–especially appropriate during our Winters–and mute the background noises of our urban environment.

Love it when you (and I mean anyone ’cause I’ve never been able to get to the right place at the right time) can get a clear area and have the right timing to include elements that ground the moon like this. Well done.

@frogdaily, I love that you were able to get the moon to pose so that the foreground details could frame it.

Usually, you get advice about including people to add interest and scale. I agree though. This one sort of goosed it up a notch.

Thank you. Shortly after I posted this to an online forum active way back then, someone told me I should study this picture and try to replicate it. I was still so new that I had no idea what he meant or why I would try. It took me a while to figure out he meant that I should identify the elements and try to replicate those in different images.
