I like all of the image @valeryp. The fact that you have cropped the image tight overall (knife, towel) negates any comment on the onion crop. I feel the crop fits the image perfectly. Everything appears to support the bread, from the lighting to the knife pointing to it. The lighting and image highlights emphasizes the bread and draws my eye…[Read more]

@valeryp Valery, I couldn’t agree with Rob more about your work! You are a still life master with your own distinctive style creating superb compositions and subtle lighting. I’m reminded of the Old Masters when I see what you do. It’s as if I’ve never seen garlic and rosemary in a kitchen before. To me, the best art shows us new ways of seeing,…[Read more]

Great feedback, Valery. Thank you! My lens is a kit lens, Canon 55-250mm, I shot this at 55mm. Exif is f/8, 1/8 sec, ISO-800, -2 step if that helps. I’ll try again on another day, now I can see that all of the glare spots are blown as well as the top let stem on the lower right onion. I’ll see if I can come up with a translucent covering for the…[Read more]

This photo posted in the Shark tank titled #2051 by @valeryp IMHO is a five star photo. it is one of my favorite photos of his. It is well lit, the composition is great, the texture on the pasta along with the touch of flour makes this photo. The story comes across so well that I want to go make some homemade pasta.

Wow, that is much better!
I love the contrasting bits of brightness in the foreground & the back wall.
Question: when you do this style of picture, do you under-expose the image or do you start with a lower amount of available light in the room/on the subjects?
