Interesting to find this thread has been resurrected! I followed and partook and learned from ST for a while in the early days, then I wandered away, and when I came back recently I was disappointed to find it was infused with the fluff I didn’t like on all the other sites. Fortunately it retains a major element of that honesty (even if it g…[Read more]

It’s nice but it feels out of balance. I think more black space above and more light on the terminal end (right) of the piece would give the composition better balance overall.

In #3, your dark hat blends with the dark background, making it confusing.
Otherwise you have a truly compelling sequence.

Too bad the detail of the belly and under the wing is lost in blackness. If it had those it would be a very cool image.

Unusual shaped flowers. Had you left the stems green they would be more easily identifiable. The pink color is almost too saturated. I know sometimes this is the reality of it – I photograph flowers, too.
The very left 1/4th of the image is nothingness; you could crop it off and have a better balanced image.Check It Out -

Crop off 1/4 of the top or the bottom (I would prefer cutting off the bottom) for better composition.
Too bad the grass seed head is right over the sun. Had you stepped a bit to either side they wouldn’t be competing for your attention.Check It Out -
Veronika replied to the topic Southwest Landscape in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 5mo ago
Maybe you were in the southwest when you took this shot but it could just as easily be Wyoming to me. Where are the cacti and/or yuccas? Maybe give it a new name? (I live in the US southwest desert and this looks nothing near me)
Enough about the title…
The top is bland so some of that could be cropped off. The island is lovely but the…[Read more] -

I liked #1! The only thing I would have done is brought down the highlights on the calves bodies.
Including more of the road tells a better story – as if I was driving on that lazy country road and had to stop to let the calves meander across, and then I would continue on my merry way.
#2 leaves the calves without context. Blah.Check It Out

@keithinmelbourne, you and I think alike. My first thought on #1 was: it’s like the early Dutch/Flemish still lifes; I like it!
That tall bottle (olive oil?) looks tilted. I would fix that.
In #2, the foreground is too bright; the peppers are blown out a bit.Check It Out -
Veronika replied to the topic Low or High in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 5mo ago
I prefer #1, the low crop, because the road makes a better leading line through the photo.
Lightening the dark color of the bridge would give the whole shot a dreamier look – that’s in lieu of saturating the rest of the colors to create a brighter look. It could be a nice set up for a family portrait.

Veronika replied to the topic 1st ever macro shot, cc please… in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 6mo ago
When you are shooting macro, your DOF is so shallow that you have to pick one tiny aspect of your subject to be your focus point. With flowers, the most interesting aspect is usually (but not 100% of the time) the structures in the center. If they are out of focus, as in your photo, the whole thing is off. Check It Out
