Personally, crop 2. You still keep the central focus with some of the dark foreground at the margins, but can see more of the lovely textures and detail.

@lightandshadow I think I now owe you a street photo of the local signs to Midsomer Norton! (We’ve had our own less deadly mysteries over the last year: somebody/a group of somebodies keeps switching the road and street signs with other towns in the area, which is starting to get quite funny provided you aren’t lost.)

Oh, you’re telling me – writing has been my day job for the last almost-20 years! I actually think I’ve managed to preserve enough of my own writing skills (professionally), but I agree with you about the behaviour change.

This is stunning. Please can I ask what kit and settings you used? I got very lucky with my moon shot (lol) earlier this month but normally I can never capture it well.

I have loved reading down this thread! Pets is probably 90% of my Lightroom portfolio, so I’ll try not to go overboard here… Ponies first!

This draws me in and makes me want to skip down the rooftops like I’m in a musical (or it would if I weren’t afraid of heights!)

That is one shiny floor! Clever capture of the reflections.

These are great! Really clever framing and I like the aged Polaroid effect that adds to the sense of secret war things.

Had a go at square crop: In one sense I like that it draws your eye to the bird taking off. That is slightly at the expense of some of the colours in the sky, but possibly a worthwhile tradeoff. The foreground did bug me more in this crop, somehow, so I masked the exposure on it down a little.

Thanks @lightandshadow, I do appreciate the feedback even if we’re not in Shark Tank. The square crop is a useful suggestion. It’s not usually one that comes to my mind because I tend to photography horses, which I find look better in rectangular crops.
