This is so cool (pun not intended). It almost looks like it could be nerves across a synapse.

Great call on looking up! Makes me want to duck!

Fabulous colours! Although the sign silhouetted against the makes it seem super ominous..

This is absolutely not my usual style, but I’m pushing myself to do things differently  sometimes and I really liked the textures and angles in this. I think that’s a fossilised shell in the wall. I actually took this out of my car window while I was sitting in traffic!

Had another go. I still think I’m fundamentally  disappointed with this one not turning out as well as I wanted it to, although your suggestions of cropping and adjusting the background light have definitely improved it. I think the horizontal flip has helped as well, as it draws my eye better.

Thank you, everyone 🙂

@lightandshadow good point and useful perspective. In your version, it’s much clearer that the golden light in the trees is distracting. I think I’ll have a go with some selective masking and see what happens…

I do also like the effect of less foreground in your edit, in particular.

@elkay I wonder too, though I would definitely have lost the moment here if I’d been able to get to a point of lower perspective. The woman was walking up a hill and I was at the top of it – I’m not sure how she’d have felt about being asked to pose!

@robertapple Thank you for this. I am with you on sky replacement, and I don’t have the skill to do it in any case!

I like how what you’ve done has given this almost a tilt-shift effect, which I find fascinating because it really draws you in.

@admin-2 I had sort of blanked in a different crop – I think I was being too emotional (read: stubborn!) because I wanted to try and catch the light through the trees. I will go back to the RAW and have another play, although from memory it is the sky above the trees that’s totally blown.

Personally, crop 2. You still keep the central focus with some of the dark foreground at the margins, but can see more of the lovely textures and detail.

@lightandshadow I think I now owe you a street photo of the local signs to Midsomer Norton! (We’ve had our own less deadly mysteries over the last year: somebody/a group of somebodies keeps switching the road and street signs with other towns in the area, which is starting to get quite funny provided you aren’t lost.)

Oh, you’re telling me – writing has been my day job for the last almost-20 years! I actually think I’ve managed to preserve enough of my own writing skills (professionally), but I agree with you about the behaviour change.

This is stunning. Please can I ask what kit and settings you used? I got very lucky with my moon shot (lol) earlier this month but normally I can never capture it well.

I’m new here so I hope I’m not stepping on any toes by resurrecting and older post. This photo really caught my eye – there’s a lot to like about it with the leading lines, the dynamic range, and the foreground/background comparison.

Despite this, for me, it feels slightly “uncomfortable” when I look at it – with my own photos, I’ve figured that…[Read more]

Puppies…

I have loved reading down this thread! Pets is probably 90% of my Lightroom portfolio, so I’ll try not to go overboard here… Ponies first!
