Aiming for perfection I encounter my own limits, and am disturbed by my insufficiency.
Technically I can always learn more, but to recognize and create something which is meaningful requires so much more. Oh […]

A street photography teacher I had, had this to say about less than great images and photoshop: “You cannot polish a turd.”
That statement says it all. If it is a turd, delete it. We are all far too anally […]

I did a workshop with Ron Reeder, (who essentially wrote the book on the creation of digital negatives for platinum and palladium printing.) All I have to say is wow … the tonal range and feel of this print medium had me hooked in an instant. The key is Quadtone RIP, which provides control over […]

Lens, oooh there is a big topic. Most people think of focal lengths in 35 mm film (or full frame) terms, even though the majority of cameras use a smaller sensor. To avoid confusion, I will talk in terms of the sensor that your camera is using which has a ration of 1 / 1.6 […]

Pretty close I was sitting on the sidewalk with people walking past me …. oh her … yes well ummh …. (I am a guy after all.)
What was cool is it was a hand held 1/20 second exposure, with a 14 mm lens so the guy leaving had no idea he was in the shot … (I wonder what his mom would think?)

Ok, this is B&W with one small bit left in colour for emphasis. I don\’t if it qualifies for this group, and I will remove it if Renee feels it steps over the boundary … (still it is fun)

Nice perspective. Was that a belly shot ? I agree – leaving the color in adds emphasis on the ‘subject’. Photo Gestapo says it can stay.

It’s Nikon, and something tells me you’re a Canon person … (I wouldn’t want to offend anyone’s religious sensibilities, or start a gear war over a humble D3x.)

Tom, they are just trying to help you be a better person.
Hormones aside, Renee really got the atmosphere, nailed on the shot, and the tones are lovely. (I bet it would wonderful printed in platinum or palladium.)

I have a D3x, and that advice could result in damaging myself permanently and/or being charged with misleading advertising, (especially with the 600 mm lens attached.)

No, I didn’t say anything, but she did. It was something about some woman named Christine who was mentoring her and runs a dungeon for photographers. If I didn’t get the shot right, (and perhaps even if I did), I would be taken there to be a “model” for her training.
Not sure how to take it, I just made sure I got the shot, and ran away. Pity…[Read more]

It could be a pinhole – as long as it gets the job done !

Great photo but she does look like she’s going to hit you. Did you say something? I like the backdrop as well. What’s it called?

Lovely motion, and yet a well defined face with lots of character.
Well done.
