@greykat, Thanks Todd, you\\\’ve dragged me out of my current photography ennui AND motivated me to battle the cold outside.

Battling with me were my two favorite photo models, my son and his wife who are always game for the latest antics to which I ask them to participate.

We were going to try the steel wool thingy along with the glow sticks, but the hardware store closed earlier than I anticipated it would so we had to settle with glow sticks alone. But I was still happy with what we accomplished for a first try.

We chose the bandshell in the park across the street from my house, assuming it would be pretty dark in there. There was a lot of snow on the ground and a few lights in the park parking lot and the reflection made it a little lighter than I hoped but we did manage to get a few shots that were semi acceptable.

    Lightpainting Duo
They were one in front of the other on this one, you can almost see their faces.

    Lightpainting Toss
This shot they were tossing the sticks back and forth, trying to catch and throw at the same time.

After several different attempts we relocated back to the house since steel wool wasn\\\’t in the offing we decided the basement might be darker and was sure to be warmer.

    Lightpainting Portrait
This was my son with the glow sticks stuck into his hair and around his head (the yellow one was held in his mouth) he then proceeded to slowly lower himself into a crouch.

    Lightpainting by Hand
This is my favorite, sticks protruding from his fist as he slowly lowered then raised them.

We all had a blast trying this out and are determined to do the outdoors again but are going to wait for warmer weather.

    • must have been fun……love the last one, I like the first as well….

    • Cool! I really like the last one.
If you do try the steel wool I don’t remember if I said this or not but you want to get the fine or #0000 as it burns the best. Be careful with the steel wool spinning with nearby flammable objects and people who can get burned. When I’m doing the spinning myself I usually close my eyes or look down to be safe.
