Trying out new equipment; ring light and a 6″ acrylic cube. Clear acrylic makes it easy to photo the ventral side of living crawling insects. Much to learn.

Seems to be a fair amount of noise on those, @bugz – what’s happening there?

Hi @bugz, the acrylic cube sounds like a great idea …. but, like @admin said, there’s a lot of noise, and the only image without noise is the last one ….. am I right in thinking that all the others are through the cube except that one?

Studying meaning of image “noise”. Maybe I’ve comprehended. For my thought, I believe I’ve got too many different lights on in the room and the acrylic is picking up a bunch of junk light. I think I may doing such as this in a completely dark room, then I’ll know if unwanted light enters the project it will necessarily come from my photo lighting. I can set up on tripod; use remote release; manual focus; kill all lights and trigger. That might help. It will probably take time and variations. Thanks all for passing by.

You might want to look into a softbox rather than a ring light.

I made one out of white cardboard that I put over my remote flash. Works ok.

This was f/11, 1/15s according to flickr. I don’t understand why you’re getting so much noise here, unless you’ve under exposed and/or cropped in heavily on the subject?
