Many years ago I took a photo of the family on a sailing vacation. All the elements were there and I had it printed poster size. A professional photographer saw it and told me why it worked. From that day on I tried harder to understand the making of more artistic images.

Welcome @Photog! The term ‘many years ago’ does not hold too fond memories for me in terms of photography because it implies ‘film’ and I’ve lost a lot of pics because of that (for some reason I always forgot to get them developed until it was too late and the film became spoilt). I wish I’ve had a digital camera when my kids were still growing up – I do not have closely enough pics of them!
