Photography Beginner

Hello everyone,

Just purchased a Nikon 3500 with 2 lenses.  I haven’t taken any shots with it yet.  They say that is a very good beginner’s camera.  I am learning the basics of photography thanks to your cheat sheet!  The photo below was taken with my old Sony camera.  What critique can you give me?  How would you crop this photo for maximum effect?  Thanks so much for your site.

Thanks for the critique.  Looks much better.  Hopefully soon I’ll have some pics for the Shark Tank (yikes).

Welcome Luis. Don’t let the Shark Tank intimidate you. If you really want honest but helpful critiques you’ll enjoy and learn from the feedback there.

The horizon in this image would be better if it was level. It’s a simple adjustment but it’s one of the first things a viewer notices when it’s slanted.

The 3500 is a fine camera. You can get a LONG way with it. In fact, if you’re good enough in skill, the 3500 could get you published in a magazine. So now it’s time for some learning!
