Allows Edits? YesI’d guess that the single most powerful piece of photography advice that I ever received was “get closer.”
When I look at my compositions before I took that seriously, I kind of cringe at the good shots I missed.
So this throwdown is to post a photo where you think the composition is better because you got closer to the subject.

Cute shot of a very willing & beautiful subject! 🙂
I’ve gone through something very similar with this shot over the weekend, eliminating grandma sitting on Kayleigh’s left. I like the (flash) light showing up in her eyes so I brought her just a little closer. I might bring her even closer like you did. The sun was not my best friend here…
PS: I did not take chances with the sunscreen lotion! 😉

Allows Edits? YesI feel a lugie coming on.
Every time I have gotten close to one of these guys I have gotten spit at, and if you have ever experienced that it is like 12oz of spit at once.-

A bit heavy lighting on the bottom half of her face (can be easily corrected with the graduate filter in LR) but beautiful yet again!

Thanks Leanne! Someone taught her to say ‘cheeeeeese!’ during shots and I hate that because it’s easy to pick up when lip-reading her pics. Now and again I catch her off-guard during a real laugh (I think this one was after she accidentally slipped into the hole) and then I get the shots I love from her. The challenge is to be ready at all times…
This was another one in ICU after I bumped my knee against her bed in order to take a shot (amazing sense of humour, regardless where she is!) and I said ‘ouch!’ (it really was sore). At this stage we had to handhold her head as she was still too weak to keep it upright all by herself. It’s a bad quality mobile phone shot but it gives you the idea:
I love this shot of yours above. Not always easy to expose the whites correctly so you’ve done well here.

That is a GREAT smile, Tobie! I can empathize with the “cheese”-y shots. The other ones I get are “hiding” or deliberate sabotage (I have an eight year old who isn’t above looking ridiculous if it mucks up my photo – what she doesn’t realize is that I am making a collage of all these shots that I will share on her grad day…hahA!). Anyway, smiling and having a great sense of humour will serve your little one well in this crazy world!
