Allows Edits? NoI travel as much as possible and I like to get into the back country every chance I get. I thought it would be fun to see your vehicle in hard to reach places.
Photographing Mummy Cave Ruin in Canyon de Chelly. We started at daylight and arrived around 5pm. We stopped a lot but I’d say it takes about 2-3 hours to get there if you don’t stop. No idea why anyone would do that.
Ophir Pass. Not much (any) truck showing 🙂 but it’s there

Than Sadet by Aaron Geis on Light StalkingThat looks like fun! I tried to power through some spring snow and almost got my truck stuck on a rock way up some back road in Utah, alone, at least 30 miles in.
I still have a vivid memory of the huge relief I felt when I managed to get the truck free, only minor scraping to the underbelly of the bed.
Back in the first days of 2000 I arrived in Bangkok after a somewhat ill fated motorcycle trip through Northern Laos, bike broke down near the Chinese border and I brought it back by boat and then bus to Vientiane. I checked in to the J&Joe Guesthouse and whilst shaving at the sink in the courtyard I felt a gaze landing in the mirror.
The Dutch nurse connected to that gaze had heard of a quiet beach on Ko Phanang and after getting my film developed by the pro lab in Bangkok we set off for the 24 hour journey down there.
First an overnight bus, then a boat to Ko Samui and then another boat to Than Sadet about half way up the east side of Ko Phanang.
There’s a little stream running down the draw just there and a famous rock beside it that has been signed by three Thai kings.
Most beaches in Thailand are over run by lager louts and annoying touts but this place is remote enough that there was a notable paucity of those blights on beachdom.
The water is deep enough at this cove to stand on the waterline and dive in.
On the adjacent small cove you can wander out 100 meters and still be only waist deep. Decent snorkeling, possibility of turtles.
If you are ever in the area the best food is found a Plaa’s – the red roof meeting the sky on the hillside. Say hi from me!

Allows Edits? NoI don’t know when but they added a little insert image box. For some reason href and img src do not work for putting images on a thread. I’m dying to see them!

@michael-lloyd The trick seems to be to put the copied code in using the ‘text’ tab.
Hopefully you can see them now.

The guidebook said it was forbidden for tourists to sail by dhow to Zanzibar.
What spoil sports!
My wife and I made our way to Bagamoyo and asked the French expat owner of the guesthouse if it was maybe possible to hitch a ride.
He sent one of his guys out to ask around at the harbor and found a captain willing to take us across.
We left at about three in the morning, sailed by starlight and arrived about an hour after dawn.
If you’re ever thinking of trying it make sure the dhow isn’t filled with rough hewn charcoal, not comfy.
(you also might want to pack your own life preserver)

Thanks Michael, it’s all a bit past tense these days.
Recent trips have involved a bucket and spade at the nearby seashore.
