This maybe the last winter I ever experience in a cold climate with snow and I’m determined to get at least one good shot of a snowflake. I have a photography friend who gets amazing single snowflake photos with the macro setting on her cheap Point & Shoot photography. I’m still trying with my macro lens…and these are my best so far…still need some practice. The snow was falling in clumps this weekend…hard to isolate single flakes. Anyone else trying this?

Thanks @mdhs1675 … I was pretty happy to get these as I’ve been trying with less success for awhile. If you Google snowflake photos, you’ll see some excellent examples from photographers who specialize in this…or at least have more experience and dedication to it.
@shaneh …thanks! I used a cashmere scarf and a microfibre jacket …you can use any dark material for best results…the colour often makes the photo pretty too. When it’s snowing lightly, I just lay the material down on a picnic table on my back deck…set up the tripod in a good position…wait for the flakes to start landing and start shooting. Takes some adjustments to get close enough for good focus…it’s trial and error…lots of DELETES when I was all done. The snow wasn’t ideal this weekend either…one day it was falling in clumps…next day it was just tiny specks…no really good big single flakes. So you have to wait for the perfect snow day too! 🙂 -

Thanks @anshumanchandel .
thanks @tersha …but I’m actually pretty sick of the snow and wish it would all go away….it’s been a brutal winter here. Taking pictures of snowflakes is just a little diversion. 🙂
Thanks @dchester1001 … I can’t imagine taking a holiday in the snow…but I hear it’s popular with some people. 😉 I just dream of palm trees and sunny skies!

Thanks @karamen … winter can be pretty…it’s just too damn long and cold! 😉
@dchester1001 … That sounds like a wonderful idea…BUT… I think this is my last winter in a snowy climate… with any luck, I’ll be in Florida next winter…not much snow there. 🙂 -
