My thoughts about watermarks and copyright notices is that they can be distracting when viewing a photograph and can be defeated relatively easily. You can use a third party such as digimark to enhance the protection, but the bottom line for me is that people who “steal” the images of others do so because they don’t have the talent to produce…[Read more]

The term that we use in page design for web sites is “passive white space” as opposed to “active white space”. The space actually doesn’t have to be white – the term is used to differentiate between spaced that is planned specifically to separate objects, rather than dead space that is not specifically planned to enhance the design. In this case -…[Read more]

I can’t think of a free one, but the NIK filter collection is currently on sale for $149 US – a very good value…
Another option that is very good and VERY easy to use is Athentech’s Perfectly Clear. It retails for $199 US

You can actually book an independent photography session in Antelope Canyon. You don’t really need a guide. You pay a fee and then go on your own for several hours. I did this and did not feel a guide was necessary…

Richard McLeish replied to the topic Focus in Landscapes in the forum General Photo Chit Chat 10y, 8mo ago
It is better to have the foreground sharp and the background softer if you have to choose. The best bet for landscapes is to use a tripod and set the camera so the mirror is up before releasing the shutter. Most cameras will allow you to do this, some will even allow you to set a delay between mirror up and shutter release. You can also use a…[Read more]

First of all, I’m sorry I didn’t message you rather than posting my own image – I hope you didn’t mind me posting my comments, but I thought others might benefit from the post-processing suggestions – AND you can only send messages to “friends”.
As for the settings, I used 1/1250th of a second because the moon moves quite quickly – esp. using a…[Read more]

I shot this last night in Victoria, BC without a tripod. I used spot metering and set my camera to auto ISO – with a maximum ISO of 500 and a minimum shutter speed of 1/1250th. In post-processing I increased the clarity in Adobe Raw, converted the image to Black and White in Photoshop, and then used Nik Viveza to add structure to the moon. Hope…[Read more]

A nice photo – I might crop just a little from the left so that the gap between the fence post and the left edge of the image disappears… my eye was drawn towards the wedge of green
