I’ve had that happen before….very annoying! There is software out there that you can try to recover, some being free. I can’t vouch for any though. If you got 40 off your card , try working backwards – that is, go to your last photo and select say the last 30 images. If all download, try downloading the next five…if you get stuck again, only download the last 25. Usually it’s one or two corrupt images ruining it for the card, so you can select the photos around the defective images to download.

Also, get a new card (check your warranty on yours as you might be able to get a replacement). Sounds like the same problem I had and it was a defective card with me.
