I haven’t done an online workshop, but that’s a great idea…especially the free part. My wife is starting to get into boudoir shoots. There’s plenty of women around Santa Barbara who have the time and money, and who like to spend it on getting/staying in shape. They’re also able to shell out for a shoot. […]

Okay @tomdinning, you’re right. My reaction was extreme. Going analog is going back too far. But I was looking at it from the original poster’s admission of being a beginner. I assumed “absolute beginner”, in which case why not completely strip it down and start with the basics of photo composition? Especially if you’re a retired […]

I meant to mention…I had the great fortune of recently attending a talk in Santa Barbara by Kim Phuc, the girl from that icon Vietnam War photo. This site includes the photo: http://blindflaneur.com/2008/06/30/after-napalm-the-long-road-to-forgiveness/ My wife was one of the photographers covering the event, so I went along with her and boy am I…[Read more]

If you have money to burn and a real desire to learn photography, shelf or sell your digital equipment, buy film equipment and learn how to take pictures and develop them the old school way. The knowledge and satisfaction you’ll receive will be unbeatable.

I had a stab at making apple dumplings this weekend. They tasted alright, even though I used Splenda-substitute for sugar. However, they didn’t look alright. Not very dumpling-esque at all, so I’ve named them grumplings instead ‘cuz they just look disgruntled and unpleasant. I took a picture of them, but I’m not sure how to […]

Just wondering what other people’s thoughts were on attending photo conferences. Do you think they’re too expensive and not worth the bother or do you get enough out of the workshops/lectures to justify the cost? To me, local ones seem worth it, but when you factor in travel and hotel costs it gets too pricey.

I love how the moss is overtaking the shoe! I’m a big fan of nature reclaiming synthetic, man-made junk.

I thought that people who liked to talk about photography would be interested to know of another place where that was taking place. In retrospect, I see that that was disrespectful to Light Stalking and the wonderful forum they have here.

As a new magazine, just making people aware we exist is essential to our survival. I’m not a salesman and I don’t like pushing things down people’s throats. An exchange of this sort seems fair and unobtrusive, since it’s free and a person could always opt out by “unliking” our page whenever it pleases them.
