Help with black spotI got this large black spot in a series of images shot last night. I am not sure if it was dirt on my mirror/sensor or if I have a problem with my lens – Canon EF 24-105 f/4L. The lens has felt a little loose lately – as if something inside is moving when I shake it.
There are three images – the top clearly shows the…[Read more]

I am so delighted by all the feedback – thanks so much to everyone that has contributed.
To M. Lloyd – I have the raw image, the whites are definitely not blown, and I have Silver Efex Pro 2 so I will be able to make those edits. I used Silver Efex for the conversion, selecting High Structure. But I see I have more to learn with that software…[Read more]

I would pull back on the vignette – it really darkens the foreground too much and you lose all detail. A much lighter hand on the vignette would hopefully help. I would also take a bit off the top – too much sky above the skyline, and even more off the bottom – I love the posts but don’t think we need so much of them. The resulting pano-aspect…[Read more]

I’m thinking this is a Blue Hour image, in which case I would expect a much richer blue. There’s not much going on in the water other than the reflection, which is nice, but lacks a foreground for me. I’m not sure where you are standing, but was there a rock or something to put in the lower left corner, or something along the shoreline?

I haven’t anything new to add, other than that I fall in the camp of liking this, especially the light on just the rims of the cups.

Thanks for the great feedback. I think I was trying to have two subjects, lighthouse and sky, but most agree that the lighthouse is the subject and it needs to pop more. I like all the ideas presented and I have plenty of great suggestions to work with so thanks so much!

I like this “take” on Peggy’s Cove. But it seems a little busy to me. Ideally only one artist, and maybe not the red backpack – it is so bright it becomes a focal point. Or if the painters are your subject get in closer to them. We don’t really need that much sky, and some foreground could go away as well. And that sliver of space on the left…[Read more]

I am thinking that perhaps the sky area is a bit too burned out. I see a hint of mountains in the distance? If you can’t bring the sky/mountains back in from your RAW image, then I would suggest cropping off the sky – it is too bright and catches the eye. I also think your maximum sharpness is too far into the frame, leaving too much of the…[Read more]

Thanks, but I’d like more feedback on the crop of rock/sea. Seems to me this takes the lighthouse out of it’s environment?
