That might be an idea. I will have to read up on how to properly convert images to B&W first, as I’ve never done it before, but I will definitely give that a try!

Version 2.0, removed the water bottle and darkened the bright areas in Photoshop.
I was unfortunately not in charge of the water bottle. I was shooting photographs for an event, noticed this scene, and shot it. I got permission from the mother in the form of a nod from where she was standing, but I did not really want to go up and ask if I could move their water bottle. I also struggled with the light in the background; I like what it does with the boy’s hair and the mother’s clothing, but not the floor. Any suggestions for how I could improve that?
I definitely prefer the version with the less saturated background. Although it seems that now you have toned down the red house, but not the green on the left? This makes it look a bit odd to me because now the whole background is sand tones except that one bit of green. Really love the colours of the car!
I agree with the above, it also feels a bit tight for me, with the far left branches of the tree being cut off at the edge of the frame. I would have preferred just a little bit more space around the tree.
I agree, it’s better with the sky. It also looks like her eyes are opened slightly wider in the first one, which I prefer as well.
This won’t actually be useful unless the current version is cropped, but I think the composition is somewhat off, with the chairs being cut off at the bottom and the letters above “Hattie’s” being cut off at the top; it would be better not to have the little bits of those letters and to include the ends of the legs of the chairs.
