Thanks Albirder! I’ve been photographing landscapes, sporadically, for some time now and thus the world of portrait photography is completely new to me! I can definitely relate to anxiety that goes along with taking portraits of people. There’s an incredible amount of increased pressure to get the shot right. Unlike landscape photography, with portraits, you’re living in the moment and you get a limited amount of time to get the perfect shot with not much room for a second chance. However, this definitely adds a new level of excitement. Especially when the person in front of the camera is happy with the shot!

You could have one photo with 100 different people providing an opinion and each person providing a different opinion due to personal preference/taste.
Personally, I like the entire rail left in the cropped photo. With the rail cropped out, it sort of provides a broken trail (takes my eye out of the photo) to the lighthouse. With the rail left in, it provides my eye an easy trail to the lighthouse.
Thanks for your input! I’m definitely going to put to good use a lot of those tips.
I have volunteered to take family photographs for our local single parents association next Saturday, so I am about to get a lot of hands on experience as well!
In the meantime, here’s another photograph of my two sons. What are your thoughts on this one?
