I see that now, the brightness of the green basil pulling your eye. It got brighter in Lightroom when I had to bring up the photo to get the contrast in the caterpillar. This will be a good reason for me to learn masking. The basil was a nice green and not so bright before the edit.Check It Out

Here's Lookin' at ya KidThis is my first real attempt at Macro. There are caterpillars all over the backyard garden so I figured I would give it a go. This was as clear as I could get going handheld on a breezy day with a moving caterpillar. I was actually surprised to get something out of the shoot.
Let ‘er rip, I am striving to improve my…[Read more]

Agree, agree. I have learned so much in the last 5 months. I look back at this now and agree with a tighter crop and wider aperture. Actually, I probably wouldn’t have thought this was all that great of a photo. Pretty cool to look back at old work and see how your perspective has changed.
Thanks guys.Check It Out

I went to a “Pro Experience” special event where I got to tag along with a professional photographer at a Round Rock Express AAA MiLB game. Shooting from the field level media box and having a pro giving me advice all day was well worth the money! So here is one of my “Freezing the Action” shots from the day.

It's in the EyesI was going to clean up the eyes but then I noticed the reflection of me taking the picture and thought it was kind of cool. Also had a tough time with the crop, what do you think?

I started setting my WB based on where I was shooting. I agree that is the best way to learn my camera. I was shooting an indoor event under tungsten lighting and it was nice to see the correct balance when previewing on the camera screen.Check It Out

That makes sense. I should get into the habit of making sure everything is set the way it should be first.Check It Out

Also love the textures and the contrast. It strikes me as too orderly, like the leaves were placed that way.Check It Out

I probably should have added that I am using a Nikon D7100 DSLR camera. You can set the WB to auto, sunny, cloudy etc. in-camera.Check It Out

White Balance BluesVery new to photography hence the simple question. I am wondering about the best way to adjust White balance, pre or post. I have been leaving it on auto and adjusting it later in Adobe Camera Raw.
Am I losing anything by doing it this way? Should I be trying to set the correct WB in my camera before I take my shot or does it…[Read more]

Thanks all! This was my first photo that I felt like I was starting to figure some things out. In hind sight I think I would have tried to blur the background more to hide my messy bed 🙂
I tweaked it a bit in Photoshop to try and set a darker, mysterious mood and get the viewer to ask “I wonder what she is looking at”. I’m having a lot of fun…[Read more]

Spying Through the ShadesBrand spanking new to photography, I literally just learned what aperture, shutter speed and ISO means. Now that I understand it better I would have done some things differently. Looking forward to some advice on how to make this better to help me advance my skills.
