Is the horizon angled just a tad downhill to the right?
It’s a lovely photo and although I am not crazy about HDR, that might be very effective here because of the wild contrasts between land and sea.
I also might look at cropping out that little puddle in the lower left corner. I found myself trying to figure out what it was.Check It Out -

Is either the lens itself or the UV filter a recent acquisition?
What I’d suggest is setting up a test about the same time of day as you took those photos. Shoot several shots at approximately the same angle and same settings with the filter on, and several more with them off. I would bracket three with varying apertures, three with varying ISOs…[Read more] -

More cropped by Gallopingphotog on Light Stalking
Is this tighter crop better? Should I take even more off the left-top?
You are quite right in that a different angle would have included the horizon and sunset.
But that was my only evening in San Diego and I’d made some wrong turns and backups just getting there. I walked along the top for…[Read more] -

Well no, you don’t have to see them. Just go on to the next page or whatever.
Unless the photographer is your mother-in-law. Then yes, you do have to see them, and you’d damn well better like them too.

San Diego and Palm Springs suggestions?Husband has a tennis tournament in Indian Wells (Palm Springs area) in early November. We’re planning to spend about a day and a half in San Diego before going to Indian Wells.
In SD I am hoping to visit Cabrillo National Monument, Sunset Cliffs and perhaps the La Jolla area. Depending on time of day, I’d…[Read more] -

Yes, this is vastly better than you initial shot. Actually the muted light might work better than bright sunlight, which would just increase the glare from the water. I might bump the ISO to 200-400, open your aperture just a stop and put a polarizer on so you can control the intensity a little more.
Which direction were you facing? If the shot…[Read more] -

Yes, I like this much better. The sky is still a bit distracting, much less so than in the previous photos. Perhaps if you darkened the sky some?
That “cave” in the rock is really cool. I’d try for max depth of field and contrast.
