If the star of the image is the tree, than I think you might need to try again (if possible). I would have like to have seen more branches, detai, or change focus to sunset. Next time, try to shoot the same subject in a variety of ways…always easier than trying to recreate.Check It Out

So I’m out walking around with this new lens (16-35mm) knowing that portraits are bad with wide angels, looking for inanimate objects to place in the foreground then layer the background with the feeling of the busy street (Maybe some motion blur) when I happen upon this man. Can’t help myself. Old habits.Check It Out

Color – man and dog – square by GM Kennedy on Light Stalking
New crop certainly put the man/dog front and center which I’m not usually happy with. Hmmm. Point taken about the left side of image is uninteresting. I struggle with adding interest/layers while maintaining a focal point. Had to adjust the lower crop (which I don’t like) by man…[Read more]

Color vs black and whiteI’m starting to work with a wide angle lens on the street. I like the wide angle for grabbing more of the scene and placing the viewer but am definitely having some mixed results. This recent image is fun, but seemed to be lacking something…so I tried it in b&w. Now i will throw them into the Tank. Composition? b&w vs…[Read more]

This is a very technically challenging shot for someone new to photography. Your eye is good. I would suggest spending more time getting to know your camera in less demanding (technically) situations before plunking down money for ND filters and such. Shoot, shoot, shoot then process. For processing/photo management (i.e. remembering where you…[Read more]

Thanks all. No, I have not posted this on my flickr yet. I’m finishing up some nature shots and then will got back to more street work and post together. I agree, shooting in RAW gives you so many options. I try to work full frame but usually end up cropping. Guess I’m not a purist.

I took your suggestions and gave this a new crop. I guess I would say this is not one of my more successful images. Time to go out and hit the streets again…

Next time you find yourself in a similar situation (without a flash or reflector) turn your subject around and use the beautiful light at that hour to light your subject. Trying to shoot directly into the sun anytime of day is difficult (almost impossible) without fill light.Check It Out

Slightly higher than eye level POV is usually effective and adds intimacy. I would have liked to see you include the hands in this shot since hands often help with conveying expression. Consider converting to b and w…the vests would create a heart shape, adding to the obvious effect ion these two have for each other.Check It Out

I had a feeling this one was not quite hitting the mark which is why I threw it into the “Tank”. Too much and too little going on. Thanks for the feedback. I’m definitely going to give this shot (or something like it considering this guy may be awake by now) another attempt trying to capture a blur of activity around the main subject. Good…[Read more]
