Sharlene started the topic Event Photos in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 3mo ago
Event PhotosI shot an event for an organization for free, which is not what I normally shoot. I also never use flash, but needed it in this case (or, if I could’ve done without it, I don’t know how). I feel like my photos are lacking that crispness and clarity that professional photos usually have, and I’m not sure why. If they’re out of focus, I…[Read more]

So helpful Michael!!
One quick question: does it matter whether there is noise from keeping the shutter open v. cranking up the iso? Is the amount of noise not equivalent when taking the exact same exposure but with different exposure settings?Check It Out

I was hoping to get some decent star trails. Or any stars at all. I agree with your observations, and noticed that after I took the shot, but lack the know-how to improve it. Would definitely appreciate feedback on the technical aspects of the shot.Check It Out

Long Exposure NighttimeThis is my first attempt at nighttime long exposure photography. Kind of struggled, would appreciate any feedback on how to improve the results. I posted the original and then also the auto-toned picture. We also had a really bright moon- I believe that probably impacted the results?
Stats: 12 min, f/16, iso…[Read more]

Sharlene replied to the topic Theme: Movement in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 5mo ago
When I do waterfall-type photos, I usually prefer the extremes: stopped motion or nice silky water. Both usually create impact. This photo feels like it’s right in between those two points, and personally doesn’t work for me. A little bit longer of a shutter speed I think would’ve better evoked a feeling of movement. Out of curiosity did you…[Read more]

Beach DayI walked up to a lady at the beach who was watching her kids playing and asked her if I could photograph them. The photo was taken around midday. I stayed where I was, rather than walking around and changing perspective, because we started chatting and I was trying to get the childrens’ reactions as they were coming down the sand hill.…[Read more]

Thank you for the feedback! I did shoot at my widest aperture, unfortunately I didn’t have my macro lens. I’d never played with the vignetting effect before in LR, still not perfect but infinitely better than the original 🙂 Thank you again!

SpiderI wasn’t really sure what to do with the background of this picture. I don’t do drastic editing (i.e. replacing the background). I increased the contrast and also increased the black tone. I cropped it so that the legs just touch the top and bottom of the frame. I’d really appreciate any feedback on how to improve this photo both when I took…[Read more]

I agree that it looks underexposed. As for the fence, because of how much is included, it looks like it was an accident that it ended up in the photo. The photo would be enhanced if either the fence were omitted entirely, or much more of it were included so it looked purposeful and provided a strong foreground.Check It Out

Sharlene replied to the topic Photos in a cloudy and foggy day…. in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 5mo ago
A large part of photography is knowing what to include and exclude in a photograph. If an element won’t add anything to the photo, just don’t shoot it. Although having a gorgeous blue sky or sunset or something else to enhance the photo might have been great, it simply wasn’t there to work with, and it’s not worth it to sacrifice the quality of…[Read more]

My 1 yr old NephewI took this photo using natural light in the living room. This is the first time I’ve shot children. Nothing was set up, just took photos while he was playing around. I prefer taking close shots like this one when I feel the background will detract from the photo. It’s unedited except that I may have increased the contrast a…[Read more]

One Year OldI took this photo of my nephew. Used natural light, taken in the living room. Nothing was set up, he was just playing around. This was my first time photographing children since it’s hard to do in a non-professional capacity outside of family.
