Having been to Smith Island on a photography trip, I can imaging what you were attempting to capture in this image – the reflection of the sun in the water. In B/W, it lacks the warmth that the sun conveys. The sun is a blown out and I think the structure behind the boat is distracting as well as the item directly under the sun. Check It Out

Sherri,
What are your settings? The sun is a bit blown out and the structures are distracting. I spent a weekend on Smith Island and definitely prefer the images to be in color. Just a personal preference, though. What was your subject in the image, the sun or the boat? -

I can see where you are going to have fun with this project. It made me smile. I can just imagine how many objects you will use to “find the light”. In this image, I would crop the top part – sort of above your head and not having the sink show. You have me picturing a pot surrounded by veggies but with lights of different colors coming out…[Read more]

Are these just wooden toys set up in front of water to make it look like a beach scene? What is the gold item on the left side of the page? Perhaps focusing on the large rock above the tree would at least make the scene seem realistic. I see the use of use of a polarizer at the top.Check It Out

Thanks @tobiepsg, I thought it was just my eyes or my computer with the distortion – the purple building as well as the three tall buildings.Check It Out

She looks as if she is disgusted that he is crying on her shoulder. Does she like this image??? If this is an engagement pic, it is the saddest I have ever seen. Who cares about the blue gel? Was that used to improve the image. It did not work. It is not an appealing image in any case.Check It Out

Joyce Stevens replied to the topic Red Lights in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 1mo ago
Your f2.8 is a little shallow dof for this type of shot and it grainy due to the 800 ISO. I’m sure you used both of those because of lack of light. Just too much going on with the wires and the tree. That seems to be some hill though. Check It Out

I am distracted by the blown out white areas in both images. What were your camera settings? Too much contrast to capture bright and dark area equally.Check It Out

Will,
Just one thing – the horizontal tree in the background seems to go through her head. All the others are great! Just watch your backgrounds. Nice first real photo session.Check It Out -

Natalia,
This is quite lovely. It has a flow to it and the contrasting colors are beautiful. I would love a series of three of these on my wall. The f 2.8 is definitely the reason for the soft petal, but for this image – who cares? Background is overall perfect for this. Artificial lights may have not had the same effect. Excellent!Check It Out

Joyce Stevens replied to the topic whats bugging me..?? in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 2mo ago
Mirek,
What is your subject? There are just too many elements in the image. That is probably what is bugging you. Visually. it is not an attractive nor interesting scene. Were you trying to tell a story about life on the riverside? life in the city? Check It Out -

I personally do not understand why we try to “critique” personal, family-type images. They are just that. Usually taken in the moment, unplanned, not posed, informal, and sometimes fun captures of children. A quite subjective personal family type image. Only the person behind the camera has the strong feelings that go with the image.

Jaime,
Thank you for the response. I have been to Charleston also, so for me this type of image just begs for color and simplicity. The other thing that bothers me is that the image is split in thirds by the tree and lamp post. I feel the lamp post is in the way of balanced image and blocks the colorless sunset… just one element too many.…[Read more] -

a.allais,
Your camera is basically a point and shoot without any controls you need to make good images. Since you cannot add any type of lenses (e.g. telephoto, closeup, etc. ), you may need to upgrade your camera in order to get the images you want to capture. This, of course, depends on your budget. The subject you have chosen…[Read more]

Duncan,
I am loving tone of the third image as well as the juxtaposition of the cyclist and Sir Elgar and the inclusion of the entire phone booth.Agree wth michael-lloyd with the cropping suggestions. Just what I would have said, but then saw the improved image as I scrolled down.

Andre,
The green color looks good to me too considering the difference between the shaded areas and where the light is on grasses. The image seems just a bit soft. What was your white balance?I find that paying attention to the wb makes a big difference. In other words, not using auto to make the decision for you.Check It Out

Peter,
Composition – I would crop off about half way in to the tree pulling your subject to left side. In that way she is still looking into open space and to simplify the composition. It is a very “busy” scene with the texture in the tree and the leaves of the plants.Pose – If the word maternity had not been included in the description, I…[Read more]
