I would bring down the sky in post and see if you can take some of the harshness out of the sun. I would also bring the horizon down stopping at bottom 1/3rd. The action and the calm, I don’t know which way my mind should go. If you would have panned right to get rid of the splash, I think it would have been a better shot.

I believe that there is too much tree in the foreground. If there was some way to move closer and really concentrate on that rear waterfall, I think that it would have been a better shot. The foreground trees just seem to block off the view.

Way too much. Just nothing to look at.

I would ask, what is the subject? Perhaps a light vignette would bring the focus more to the center of the photo. And desaturation just a bit.

Was this taken with a filter or a converted camera. Or was this a creation of IR in post processing?

I understand what you are saying about photography, but this is not that. It is art adapted from a photograph. Not everyone will agree with that statement and that is OK. I have learned a lot from all of the comments and take each one to heart. Thanks for all the feedback. I shall continue to post. This is a great forum.

Well, this is not HDR. This is a style that I have been doing for sometime. It is all from my head without influence. Simply repeated oversaturation of color along with some dodging and burning. This really is a personal liking for me, but I’m not sure how it is being received by the public. I do sell my art in galleries. This one has had no…[Read more]

This is not a like it/ not like it thing. I hang my artwork in two galleries. I have had this one hanging for over a year and no sales on this piece. I personally like this work. It’s form is coming from my teenage years when I was doing abstracts in oil. Now that 45 years have past, I guess that I have some decisions to make. So by giving it a…[Read more]

Most of the post on this was in Light Room 4. It was my intent draw out the existing colors with luminance and over saturation. I used Photoshop for my dodging and burning along with removing a few items. There was a lot of manual work put into this, I don’t just let the software take over. Very few pieces of my work are like this, but I do enjoy…[Read more]

Definitely need to do something with the sky. If you shot raw, that will be no problem unless it was totally blown out.

I dig infrared. I agree. A nice wide pano on this would have been superb. If you are close enough to try this one again, shoot several shot and stitch them together if you don’t have a super wide. Also the horizontal center is a little dull. Perhaps a little dodge and burn?

I understand that the light is behind you, west of the Golden Gate. Makes for a good “pop” of light on the wood and the city. I might suggest not over doing it on the sky and also a slow shutter speed would have given an awesome look to the ocean. I see that you also caught the bay bridge in the background. All around nice.

I agree with fidelito about no foreground. If you could have caught a beach or rocks as the foreground, it would have shown the magnitude of that rock in the back ground. Also moving to the right would have shown more of the majestic rock while still keeping part of the palm trees. I believe that it would have made a better statement.

Craig replied to the topic Am I heading in the right direction please? in the forum The Shark Tank Feedback Forum 10y, 9mo ago
I definitely would have gone landscape mode. I would like to see more of the sky and bring the horizon down to the top 1/3 line. I would have lost the rock on the right unless you had shot landscape, then you could have captured the entire thing. Hard to say without seeing it.

To me, trying to capture the drama of the sky with the brightly lit foreground just doesn’t work. perhaps bring down the exposure just a bit so it doesn’t blast you.

Thank you for all of the replies and comments. This forum is so great to get feedback. It makes me think of things that otherwise would have been overlooked. Thank you all.
PS. About the car. This may sound a bit out there, but I did not even see the car during my editing. I guess that I was so focused on the ocean and rocks, that my eyes did not…[Read more] - Load More
