This came to me as a short notice last minute favor for a family friend sort of thing. I’m primarily a nature and landscape shooter. I have very limited PS skills so I tried the perfect portrait plug in. The look of the skin that you guys pointed out is exactly what I was concerned about.
The cropping was from some videos I watched a while…[Read more]

A bit too busy overall for me. The bits of people in the right of the frame are distracting. The white shorts of the player walking in the background are a huge visual distraction for me. I like the expressions on the players faces though.Check It Out

A good dramatic photo. I agree about the expression. I personally would have liked to have a slightly different angle to get some eye contact. Just personal opinion though. For me the lighting puts to much emphasis on the beard. I feel his face would convey more feeling and emotion. Check It Out

Appears a bit cool and underexposed for my tastes. I feel that the position of the helo could be either side. A good point is made that if the rotor were turning then on the right would be preferred. Static rotor to me signals finality, so I interpret that the helo has came in and landed.
interest in the subject is entirely subjective IMHO.…[Read more]

I agree with the comments above. The sky is blow out and foreground too dark. I personally would like to have more immediate foreground interest. I like the curve of the shore as a leading line but the darkness kills it. The shape of the clouds is nice but the color is lacking.
I realize you were really limited with the compact camera.…[Read more]

C&C on 1st attempt at hs senior portraitthis is my first attempt at a high school senior portrait. Please provide comments on composition and processing. The young man had a fair amount of acne that I was asked to clean up. I don’t have much experience at this so all comments are appreciated. This was shot in open shade with only natural…[Read more]

I added a light warming filter in perfect photo effects and some vibrancy and sharpening in LR5. I’ll go back and look at my post workflow. This was a 4 shot pano stitched in PSE9. I am not working on a color calibrated monitor (can’t afford a good monitor and color rite). A laptop is certainly not the best place for color correction but it’s…[Read more]

I would recommend checking to see the manual focus or focus lock capabilities of your camera for photographing fire. Pre-focus and use a tripod. A greater depth of field will also be helpful if your focus point is off just a bit. DOF is impacted by several factors including focal length, distance to subject, and f-stop. If you are just…[Read more]

Is this landscape boring?I was trying to use the geometric shapes of the different colors of trees to add interest as well as the different layers of color to lead the eye into the image. The snow covered peak is my prime subject. I also worry a bit about the peak being centered even though it is in the upper third of the overall image. I like…[Read more]
