The trees at the top make a nice enough frame for the image, but the twigs in the foreground are overly distracting.

The shot may also have benefitted from a smaller depth of field so the central cow is in focus whilst the other cows are blurred. That might have negated the distraction of the twigs too, although I suspect that would need re-composing altogether.

The posts in the water provide for an interesting foreground subject, but two parallel lines they create draw your eye out of the frame and away from what I assume was intended to be the main subject – the skyline. Would there have been a way to recompose so that the lines lead your eye into the frame?

I would also like to bring up the exposure of the bottom third of the frame, preferably with a grad ND filter, or otherwise in post.

          Brent,

I think the vignetting is a little overdone… A touch can add to the image, but it works best when you don’t really notice it happening.

If you added it in post I would perhaps reign it back a bit. If it is a lens effect, you can add some vignetting correction in post pretty easily.

Also, I wonder what effect it would have if the boy was slightly facing into the frame, rather than out of the frame?

            Good shout.

Can’t recall if I cropped this from the original image file, or if I will have to re-visit the scene and recompose the shot.
