I understand your words – kinda 🙂 both of these shots were basically metered in the middle and the histograms before editing and after editing had all their little bars of information inside the box and not touching the walls. AS shot histogram was pretty much centered, adjusted histogram was more right than center. I also shot RAW + jpeg. First…[Read more]

thank you, your advice has been very helpful, I did a crop in and it does change the drama of the photo. I’m curious about the blue as this was shot inside a white photobox with white background. The roses themselves were not pure white. It has been an educational and interesting self-assignment. I need another white flower 🙂

thank you, that was very helpful. Most roses I’ve taken (not this series) didn’t have enough DOF to see petals. I did have shots without the background. I think I allowed background because I couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
I should have played with the exposure while taking the shots -I knew that :(, after it was in computer there were…[Read more] -

One way to find your camera settings is click to the file of your photo in your computers file tree. Right click on the thumbnail, click on “properties”, then click on the Details tab (you may have to scroll down) and you should see under Camera your f-stop, Exposure time & ISO speed among other information.

If you wanted to show the size of the waves you might have accomplished that better by having something to compare the waves with in the picture. Maybe the waves hitting a pier or a human near the water’s edge (if that was safe at the time). To show big or small there needs to be something to judge size against. See if your editing software has a…[Read more]

I went to the local zoo as I needed a picture of a lion and these butterflies kept “getting in the way” 😉 I was surprised at the response this got on my fb page because all I could see was ORANGE! Adjustments to original are: a little cropping and a little sharpening. f 5.6, ISO 100, 1/500, lens Nikon 55-300

thanks, I didn’t notice the dark spot, I’ll see what I can do to get rid of it. I was sooooo disappointed the head wasn’t in focus on this shot. The silly bugs wouldn’t stop “running” 🙂

I was at the local zoo with my photography group and spotted this “exhibit” on a tree. Spent more time trying to get a good shot of these caterpillars than any other animal that day. While not perfect shot I am considering entering it in the local fair and would be happy to hear your constructive criticism. (Lens Nikon 105mm, f/2.8) Shot f…[Read more]

My first reaction was wondering if you were trying to make it look like a painting because of the unnatural colors and noise. Second thing I noticed was the horizon is tilted.
