I found my way to Cataloochee Valley last weekend and had a great time watching this bull move around the meadow. For a while, he was kissing on his honey not too far away from me. Then all of a sudden, she got up and walked away. The bull turned towards me and slowly got closer and closer. I was sitting on the ground and decided not to…[Read more]

@fidelito, thanks for your comments. Maybe you are right, that the butterfly actually moved its wings during the exposure 🙂 I just looked at my settings and see that my ISO was 800. I don’t usually like to go any higher with this camera. It is a very slight crop … just a tiny bit off the left and bottom. No room on the right,…[Read more]

I took this photo at a local museum on a cool morning when the butterflies were happy to just sit still. I used my Nikon D7000 with a 70-200mm lens and a Canon Closeup Lens screwed on to the front (F5.0, 1/80). I manually focused on the eyes using Live View. I like the way the background and colors came out, but I notice that the top half of the…[Read more]

I had PS from my son before LR became so popular. You use what you are familiar with, I guess.

Many thanks @fidelito! I should have mentioned that I use PS and Nik software at the moment, but I am far from an expert in these. I imagine that I can replicate your steps with these tools so I will give it a try later today. I really appreciate your taking the time to work with me on this!

This image is not cropped. However, I do have a cropped version that lops off the top and bottom so that it is more of a pano (I think 1:2). It does eliminate the blurry area at the bottom left. I didn’t realize, until you mentioned it, why I was bothered by that area.
I used a 28-300mm lens on my D7000 at F11, hand held
I have struggled…[Read more]

I was fascinated by this starfish. Had never witnessed anything like it. So, I took many photos. This one I like the best because you can clearly see that it’s middle is up off the ground. I had difficulty in post processing trying to find a way to make the starfish stand out from the sand, because I wanted the tracks to be clear as well. Any…[Read more]

@redman … yes, that would be great! I’m always afraid to crank the adjustments too much for fear of making it look too fake.

Just thought I would share a new version of my Sunflower Field … Saturation and Contrast added, plus cropped square to remove sky and crazy horizon line.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! I don’t know how long these flowers will be looking so fresh, but maybe I will give it another try this weekend. I will also try some of your suggestions with this image. Cheers.

Sorry you have seen so many images of sunflower fields … this was the first field that I have seen in person and it was fantastic. You are right that the horizon is not flat. There was nothing at all flat about this field. The horizon in my image is just how it looked from my perspective. If I had found a high perch, then maybe I would have…[Read more]

I was so excited to hear that this field of sunflowers was in bloom. I decided to head over for late day light, but all I found were stormy clouds and flat light. Also, it was difficult to compose a scene that would show the vastness of the field. I guess I should have jumped up on top of my car. Since my wide angle lens was fogged up due to…[Read more]
