The light was a little strong. It was my first time using a softbox and grid. I think I should have left the diffuser on the box under the grid? I’ll have to play with it. Probably should have lowered the power of the flash though and slowed the exposure to compensate. The background quirkiness is actually the out of focus softbox grid which I was…[Read more]

Nice shot! Good fore/mid/background interest and colors. You’ve got some color fringing, mostly green, around the mountains. I’m no expert, so I don’t know what caused it. Was this HDR?

Maybe. Not sure I agree, but I can try blurring the background some in photoshop and see what it looks like. Thanks for your opinion.

I didn’t pick the model. We’ve got a photo club and someone else hired her. I wouldn’t have chosen her for this location. She needs something a little edgier.

Yup. That’s really her hair. I was thinking about using photoshop to change her hair color, but I’m new to photoshop so that will take some time for me to figure out.

My only comment is this, your first post for this picture was
“looks like one of the billions of holidays pics taken by a japanese tourist ?”
That was the entire comment. If you had said that and followed it up with the things you didn’t like about the image, it would have been fine. If you had said that and followed it up with…[Read more]

The something weird with the background was intentional and directly out of camera. I was shooting through the black fabric grid for my softbox, so the grid is almost completely invisible in the image due to DoF and how close I was to the grid. If you look closely and trace the distortion, you’ll see the grid pattern in the background and on her…[Read more]

Thanks for your take. I don’t think I can crop it any. She’s very contemplative as she stares off into the distance/darkness. I may try playing with her face and hair a little though. She is very bright, but I didn’t want to bring that down too much as she’s the only bright in the picture.

Agree with the focus issue. I don’t know what equipment you are using, but most DSLR’s let you select the AF point you want to use. Put the active focus point right on her eyes so they are tack sharp. I’d also open up the aperture to decrease the depth of field and recompose if possible so there isn’t a house in the background. Easier to remove it…[Read more]

I might try using a polarizing filter to reduce the shine from the greenery and deepen the blue sky. Also, there isn’t much foreground interest in the picture. Might have been nice if you could have gotten a little closer to the steaks

My first dip in the tank…small bites only please.
I had my first photo shoot with a paid model last week and really liked how this one came out. It was taken with a Canon 60D and the Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro L. It was close to sunset and we were shooting under a tree, so I was using a 24″ softbox with grid. I wanted less directional light, so I…[Read more]

Image seems washed out and lacking in contrast. I would try a faster ISO, longer exposure and tripod.
