I think you mean degraded = graduated, in other words it fades from color to clear? Take your white balance and then add the filter. If you white balance with the filter off, then your editing program will correct your filtered colors. The RAW editor in PS is very easy to use: click the eye dropper on your white card and you’re done!Check It Out

Maybe more dynamic if you shot from over the shoulder of the fellow on the left? Or moved to the far right and shot up towards his hand.Check It Out

Don’t crop it! In fact, I wish you pushed that lens to 11mm for an even wider shot. I agree that the sunset is bright, but so are all the reflections on the water. I find my eye wandering over to the darker portion of the picture: the child! I like how you kept the child’s reflection in the crop. The only thing I might do is push the…[Read more]

Girl in a HotelI have a company meeting in Atlanta every year at the airport hotel. No one has a car so everyone gets wasted at the hotel bars. However, this year I brought my camera, two light stands, 3 speedlights, and a whole bunch of gels.
This was the second picture I took of the evening. I showed the model the back side of the camera…[Read more]

While doing a maternity shoot, the mother needed to nurse so I excused myself to the back yard. I noticed the family cat hiding in the tall grass so I army-crawled over to it and snapped this.

I still call this a portraitWhile at the beach for some family pictures, I discovered these yellow flowers that fully qualify for weeds in Florida. In fact, the family initially resisted stepping just a few feet into the tall grass. I prefer using a soft box or umbrella but it was way too windy so I positioned a bare bulb Alien Bee at 45 degees…[Read more]

The picture looks really cool and I had to think hard to come up with a critic: watch your background. The background looks a little shadowy; perhaps some black velvet or card stock to make the photo inky black? Regardless, it’s a Slinky so don’t make it complicated!Check It Out

Did your post processing give that halo effect? Why not push the flash to 1/1, increase to ~F11, and get a dark grey background incamera?

Its not a landscape; should we call it an airscape? I stitched two frames together to create this picture.

This wasn’t a requested shot, but I have a tendency to try new techniques with each shoot. Sometimes they work, but sometimes they don’t. This is one that I wasn’t sure of and needed a second opinion. Thanks, everyone!Check It Out

Hello fellow Olympian! I know how our glass works and I love adding vignetting in post. You’ve done a great job getting the details in the umbrellas without darking the women’s faces. I would, however, mask the bridge from the blur filter.Check It Out

Damn. Not much to say. I can’t stop staring at all the layers of texture. Maybe make the rower a leeeettle lighter but that would be really nitpicking. I had a hard time coming up with that negative comment.Check It Out

Pull the composition down to include more of the cut away or use an uncut pepper. I think the picture would be a lot more easy to look at without the cutout at the bottom of the frame.
The reflections indicate a round light source. I suggest using some flags or a strip light to narrow the light beam; it will force your reflections to follow…[Read more]

Maternity from high upI shot this yesterday afternoon while trying out some different perspectives. 1/80, iso100, 35mm, F5.0, strobe into an umbrella from ~15 feet away. I color-corrected to make it look like sunset.
I’d like to know if the composition, pose, and lighting work!
