Allows Edits? YesMaybe a shallower depth of field to focus on the subject?

Allows Edits? YesThe thing that I find disarming is the fellow on the left is looking at the camera and smiling. To me for some reason that says “snapshot”. Maybe if he were studying a book, maybe filing a book in the shelf. It may just be me. That book shop looks really interesting though.

Allows Edits? YesI did have 2 people checking for trains and the line is dead per the people that live next to it.

Allows Edits? YesThanks. I’m not very experienced with photoshop, but I’ll give it a try. I did try some different power levels on the flash and this one seemed to work best for me at the time. I’l keep your suggestion in mind the next time. Thanks again.

Allows Edits? YesThanks for the quick response. I agree with the left hand. I’ll try to darken a little. I kind of like her crooked. I’ve played with it and I think I’ll keep it that way. I really appreciate the advice. Thanks

Allows Edits? Yes@ Lenny I used the attachment that came with the speedlight. It’s kind of a plastic square that attached over the light. Thanks for the book recommendation and the suggestions.
@bucweet thanks for your reply. As all three of you have recommended taking a first picture for the ambient light then add the flash I will try again. I’m on the Oregon coast and it rains from now until……. Next nice day I’ll try again and post the results.
Thanks to all

Allows Edits? Yes@ Chris Pook Thanks so much for the reply. It never ceases to amaze me the detail that is seen. I suffer from not seeing the trees because of the forest.
I think the reason that the background is so bright is I’m trying to make it age appropriate. She’s only 10, but I do agree that it is probably to bright. She is sitting on a stool with a back and for most of the pictures she is sitting upright with her head a few inches back which probably explains the main light hitting her hair on the right side. As far as rim/hair light I was hoping that the sun would suffice. I do have a second light that I could have used.
I used fully manual. Additionally, the camera was on a tripod. I think that I will need to be much more organized with this process. I used two different lenses, moved the light around and the reflector.
I have a note in my camera bag: ISO – light globally, Shutter – Ambient light, Aperture – Flash.
I’ll submit some more as I practice.
Again, thanks.
