Allows Edits? NoKent, point taken about the shot. I’m brand new to photography (18 mths). I had no idea it was so well photographed. I set up before sun set and I was on my own. By the time I took this I was surrounded by what looked like 50 pro photographers – all taking the same shot! That was a fist for me and I must admit I was a bit intimidated.
Learners mistake.
I went for the rule of 1/3rds with the eyes lead to the Dom. Maybe a tighter crop would have been better. May have a go over next few weeks.simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoMark, I used LR 6. It was days after the release. I tried the HDR merge but didn’t like it so I reverted back to my normal “Serge Ramellie” learnt work flow. I’ve only been for just over a year so please feel free to advise.

Allows Edits? NoSorry, I’ve not posted much and I put it all in the photo details when I uploaded it to Light stalking – expecting that to carry across into the Shark Tank. I will re try.

Shot in May in Bergen old town.
this upload has gone a lot darker and has more of a magenta tint than the original. How do I avoid that? The original RAW is 3683 x 4801 converted to JPG is the same size – is it the compression? If so what is the optimum upload size?simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

“Taken in Port Vendres on the Med where Spain and France meet at the Eastern most tip of the Pyrenees. I’d not got any filters with me to smooth out the water, hence the forced ISO 50 and f22 to get a 0.6sec shutter speed in AV mode, just enough to capture some movement.Canon 5Diii EF 17-40 f4L USM: 21mm 0.6 sec f22, ISO 50 – AV mode”

Allows Edits? NoStu, sorry, busy day…
I like this one much better, ace colours and sun rays, nice and warm but most importantly the vast nest come across.
I would have liked to have seen the more of the foreground up to the bottom of the 3rds rule, would balance it a bit more….simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoStu, I’m going to take a different stance on the composition as I feel I know what you were trying to say. The sun rays and sky are the important to the shot so a wider crop would have lost a lot of that detail. A merged pano on the other hand would have allowed you to show that feeling you get of it being a massive wide open flat space and the windmill would have given it scale.

Allows Edits? NoI agree with all the posts in that the second shot is the better all round shot and I agree with Stuart that if it was position on the RH third it wouldnt lead the eye out of the picture so much. Lovely sharp focus which engages you the eyes.

Allows Edits? NoI appreciate the time you’ve taken and cant disagree with anything you’ve said in terms of the composition and over enthusiastic moon. Its all going to taken in and to be digested as this is why I posted here in the shark tank – to get good honest reviews so I can learn.
Thanks Stu…simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoHi Stuart, and thanks for the comments on all three. Im glad to have your feed back on all three pics and i’ll answer on each individual photo.
I suppose all of the issues probably stem from my lack of post processing knowledge and skill.
I hear what you say I tend to agree, especially now that its been pointed out and I will take it on board.simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoKen, Totally agree, its a true find, about 30 mins from where I am near a village called Crowel. According to locals its a 30 year experiment, must find out more.
I agree totally about the brightness but I am really struggling with using luminosity masks. I didnt want to just up the overall exposure as I started to loose what the sky looked like. At the time the light was very low but I could pick out the white upper parts of the trunks but they taken on this yellow cast that i’d have love to have lost.Albirder,
nothing at all, I didnt shoot it that wide though, 40mm, 1/6th @ f11 ISO 100. At 24mm (which is as wide as I have) it was a bit so I zoomed until i thought it was tolerable.simon@bendi.co.ukParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoHi Erik,
I took your advice, and did a second processing in PS where I brightened the eyes a bit, I also ran a detail enhancer for the hat/snow and eyes and masked that out on her face. I tried the square crop but it didn’t look as good as the 16:9 due to the hat. PS, I also lost the hair (line across the face).
Posted it in 500px and it did ok: https://500px.com/photo/93739901/little-lottie-by-simon-brown -
