There isn’t anything special; the patch of snow or ice is lost. It might have been worth getting the ice to dominate the foreground so you can see the crystals or flakes.

I agree with the photo being too flat. However, I feel the perspective is is not right.
It should be either low; level with the kids head
or much higher -

The Nikon D800 doesn’t have a focus screen that can be user fitted.
However, you can get pin-point focus by using the Live View option and the zoom button before manually focusing on the desire point.

I love cathedrals and churches. They present plenty of challenges; no flash, no tripod and big.

I screwed up a photo I took of the Spinnaker in Portsmouth. I cut off the top of the tower. I almost deleted it but realised the reflection was perfect. A quick flip made it a good picture.
