Everyone is being fooled by the cloud bank hanging over the left side of the image. The horizon of the ocean is level.

Shot with a Nikon D5000, F14, 1/160sec at ISO 100. Did I sacrifice too much by keeping the tall tree on the left and cutting off the river on the right?

Actually I think there is a cloud bank throwing the eye off because the horizon is level if you look closely, but regardless the results are still dissatisfying. Though the flares are pretty, they still are distracting.

Well, I suggested it, so . . . Does your husband still like the idea? Do You?
Actually, I do like it. -

If you have access to Photoshop Elements you’ll find “image” along the top and go to reverse horizontal and hit okay and save as.

Thanks for the feedback. I think you are spot on. B&W would work well and I have photographed this fence and use B&W in PSE10 in the past we satisfying results.

I’d like to see the background in #1 with more blur, so there is no question for my eyes as to what the focal point is. I like #2 best.

If the water droplet is your point of focus/interest, you might consider an extension tube to pull into it more, or back up enough so the center of your flower was also in focus.

What would you think about reversing the image so that your eyes would flow from leg to birds. As it is now I feel kinda stuck on the leg and a little hard to move to the sea birds?

I do think the branches (upper right) are distracting and draws the eyes away from your wagon and barn. A tighter crop on the left side of the image might also help some, thus creating less focus on the other building.

I’d like to see it cropped to his right shoulder, thus placing him a little off center. I too can see an advantage to darkening the background a tad.

Thanks. I think you are spot on. I do have a much tighter image of the hydrant, but this was my first posting.

Maybe a more somber expression on the girl face to reflect the spiritual level of the special event would be effective.

This might be more effective if it was drawn back some. Enough to tell a better story of what is being viewed.
