Thanks for the feedback. I recently started using the black and white function on my camera to help me with the visualization and it definitely helps. John, thank you for the website. Great stuff.
I might suggest a slightly different composition. The left side feels too crowded. Also, you sort of lose the left side of his head in the darkness behind him, which makes the face oddly shaped.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. When you say that you feel like the processing is too much, are referring to saturation? Sharpening? Contrast? Anything in particular that isn’t working for you?
Really like the clouds, and how their color contrasts with the color of the water. I agree with Chotawjake, however, in that the sand in the foreground is distracting. Also, cropping so the horizon is not splitting your frame in half (using the rule of 3rds) would make the photo more pleasing.
Good one. The timing was perfect!
The second option is better. The purple sky in the first looks way unnatural. Unfortunately, there is too much in the image that is distracting: The cables in the lower right, the light poles, the “Volvo”neon sign, the blown out white spot on the left side. Just too much junk. Plus, I think the car trails are a little overexposed. I do like the composition, however, with the trails leading across the image.
The pose is nice, as is the exposure of the main subject. I find the trees in the background on the left distracting. My eye keeps getting pulled to the left.
I did not add the sky. It is as it was in the original image. I just took 3 shots at differing exposures (+2, 0, -2) and tried to blend them with layers.
Thank you all for your replies. Great info and thoughts to work on!
Welcome to the forum!! Lots of stuff to learn here!
Thanks for the feedback. Here is the link to Flickr for a better quality upload. Does it look better there? I think the poor image quality was due to the upload.

Camera was Canon t3i w/ Tamron 10-24 lens, neither of which do I still own.
Really like it. I am a big fan of the HDR look, where appropriate, and it really works well with this type of subject matter. Very cool!
Really, really like it! I would go a little easier on the white vignette, and maybe add some contrast in the sky in the background, but it really works. Nice detail.
Hate to say it, but there is not much going on that is interesting to me. It seems like one of those pictures (of which I have thousands) that was made because it was fantastic when you saw it in person, but it didn’t translate well in a photo.
Great photo. Love the composition. My only suggestion would be to try to warm it up a bit. It seems to have a little too much blue in it.
I respond much more strongly to the second one. Much more interesting. The first one just doesn’t do or say much for me. Really like the second one.
