Hello, LS nation. I’m knew to the group and looking forward to learning from you all. I have been around photography my whole life, but until recently never really got serious about it. My father worked for Eastman Kodak film processing for 37 years. My brother worked there for 8 years and I put in another 7 years. My brother and I always joked that whatever we were doing at any given moment in our lifetimes, there is likely a picture of it somewhere. Our dad was never without a camera in his hands. But he was a point and shoot guy more interested in the slide show afterwards than the craft of photography. Even when he got his first SLR he never took it out of automatic.
I am now in my early 60’s and I’m diving head first into photography. This will be a big part of the rest of my life. I recently took advantage of a Nikon sale and purchased a D850 with a 28-300 mm, f3.5 and a prime 20 mm, f1.8. The capabilities of this equipment are way beyond my current skill level, but not impossible to learn. I am out shooting in manual and having a blast doing it. I don’t always get it right, but I learn a lot from each outing. Last month, I attempted to photograph the Super Moon and failed miserably. But I’ll be back out there for the next full moon. This past weekend was independence day here in the U.S. so I went to a stadium show to try to get some fireworks shots. The results from this outing blew me away. I will now be attending every fireworks show I can find in an attempt to get even better shots.
I live in Los Angeles, so I’ll have no problem finding interesting photography targets. Cityscapes, beaches, mountains, deserts, famous landmarks, it’s all here. I’ll post some shots here and will welcome your constructive criticism.
