Glad to have recently joined Lightstalking and hoping to learn some advanced techniques and practises.
As a semi-retired self-employed graphic designer I’ve been interested in photography since I was at college. But in those days it involved loading films into canisters in the darkroom and I never quite got the hang of it!
So I was just a snapper until Covid, when all my clients shut down & I was unable to work. I needed a hobby and photography was the natural choice.
I’m now fairly well up on photography basics and have worked with Photoshop since it was launched in 1990, so I’m looking to progress to the next level.
Much of my output and post-processing is done on the fly with no standardised methods or style. I know I should be more disciplined!
I have a Sony A7iii full frame with 24-105, 100-400 and 50mm lenses, plus the usual array of accessories (far too many!)
I’m based in the NW of England. -

Welcome Heather!
You’ve no doubt had a quick look in the Shark Tank. You’ll find that you get honest critiques which may bring new ideas for you. As well, through out posting of the various images, members will provide some insightful thoughts for you.

I know I should be more disciplined!”… It sounds like you either have a specific destination you want for the image you’re working on, or, you let the image speak to you and let the image decide where it will take you. Either way, ‘a disciplined’ style of processing is definitely not required (unless one is working on a couple of hundred images from the same photoshoot where the lighting and surroundings are controlled).

Allows Edits? Yeshi there @heather-s-2, and welcome to our place! i think @bucweeet’s tip on the Shark Tank is the way to go, and if you don’t feel like it, you can always share stuff across all the other forums as well 😄

@heather-s-2 Hi Heather, welcome to our community here at LS. I agree with the others about the value of posting for feedback in Shark Tank. Everyone here is so wonderfully supportive, you can be absolutely fearless shooting whatever you wish and then posting anything with any style to get helpful feedback. If you say Yes” to giving editing privileges, members will edit your photo to show exactly how they envision what your photo could be. I have learned so much about editing and post-processing from Shark Tank! Your style will emerge as you shoot what you love, and Shark Tank will help you perfect your technique. Looking forward to seeing what your passions in shooting are! 😀
