The shot was captured in jpg due to the need to send it out quickly. On my monitor it looks black, and I calibrate my monitor monthly using a Datacolor Spyder. I will re-calibrate and check it again, thanks.
I agree with @tonyb55. Since the Bee is the subject (by default) it should take “center Stage” so to speak.
I apologize for not including the meta data for this image. I will include for all future submissions.
For this shot, here are most of the settings:
Camera: Nikon D200 with a 50mm f1.4 mounted. 1/60 sec, f3.5, ISO 320, exposure bias -5 step,
The effect I was trying for was that of “separation” – the drummer from the drum since she was leaving with a satisfied smile. She was lighted by natural light from a distant window. The drum was lighted from an overhead spot. I should have tried more ISO, but not sure what the advantage would be. I always try to keep ISO low so I have latitude with shutter speed.
Thanks.
The first two shots don’t do much for my eye or emotions.
The third shot is good for me but the concrete seam that goes behind her right wrist is distracting, and yes, the shadows are hiding some of her face – not the best thing to do when so far from the subject.
The 4th photo needs a little straightening (via crop) since the vertical lines behind her go from top to bottom.I have no problem with the arrow in her teeth. It brings a subtle sexuality to the composition. What I consider distracting is the lock of hair that crosses her face and goes across her nose. It disturbs the beauty of the face, and is distracting.
