      That could definitely be a good way to build incoming links to your website and increase your page rank. It would also be easy to track who is using your photos since you could trace the hotlinks through your site stats. My main concern is unauthorized commercial use since I license my images.

          I didn’t watermark my images for a long time since I was mostly concerned with people making prints and the resolution was just too low. However, once my photos started showing up on other websites with no attributions or links I had to re-think my position. I even found a website that was promoting my site as a great place to “lift” images. I don’t really like watermarks either since it distracts from the image so I try to make mine as unobtrusive as possible. It won’t stop people from using your photos without permission but at least you’ll have your name on them.
