Ermm, I just don’t know. Maybe if it were optional. I wouldn’t mind being rated like that, but I have a hard time using the system to rate another’s work. I frequent deviantart and have a paid premium membership (another artist bought it for me) that icludes being able to get critiques with their system. I have never critiqued another person’s art because of that star system. I have decision making issues and it is hard for me to put numbers to something so subjective. Where I might rate 4 stars in exposure or lighting, another may rate 0 or vice versa because sometimes the over/underexposure can be done on purpose and some people don’t yet understand that. Like saying a low key shot is underexposed. 😉
I have also noticed that I have only got 1 critique so far. I do not think many people like the system.

I do like @redman’s idea of the photo of the week voting system. It sounds like fun.

        Well…

I really do not know how you could improve this shot. The exposure is good and the crop/composition makes an anonymous statement.

The only part that is off to me is that the woman on the right doesn’t have a posture that says she is into it. I guess you can’t win them all in one photo. 4 out of 5 is not bad at all. 😉

I really like the B&W, and again, that CROP. :-O

If you have cats, please be reminded of the danger to them tonight.

There was a gecko on my bedroom ceiling.

Gremlin saw it first, told the other cats and 2 of her 3 cousins joined her to balance on the headboard. Unfortunately, the flash did not fire when all 3 were looking. The RAW file was nearly black, so I am glad I shoot in RAW. I could have had nothing for the first or last photo.

                    There is a gecko!

                    Gremlin tells the others.

                    They all look.

@falx: I usually don’t critique photos that I don’t know how to make, like landscapes. Unless I see something that is obviously wrong with it. This photo has alot going on, so I can only see positive things. I really love the ripples, trees, reflections, and sky. It makes me envoius that I do not have any non cluttered expanse of land nearby to practice on.

I would not like to see you go as I look forward to seeing your posts and agree with many of them. I frequent a few forums and find that I get more welcome attention here than most. I get a lot of comments and “features” on DeviantArt, and there are quite a few strange individuals (many kids too, too many) there, but almost a 0% chance of critiques there. I always come back here because the community is great. Even if I am too busy to post much.

I hate Yahoo, but got flickr anyway. However, flickr is the greatest sharing tool I have come across with the ease of embedding photos with the size of my choice. It is all I use flickr for, but it works well on most forums.

It is what it is and I just deal with it. lol

I find that the responsive community here is well worth the occasional glitch. It is great that it is not over moderated for language and seems adult oriented as well. Some sites have taken their rules so far that they censor things or close threads for petty and childish reasons. It is also not too big and I love that. I give up on trying to keep up with some forums that have over 20 people posting somewhere at any given time. My posts seem to get lost in those and many new threads get no action at all.

Sometimes the site seems to be down, but it is never for long.

I am using internet explorer and occasionally have trouble logging in. I have found that if I go to my email notifications and follow the link, it usually resolves. Also, I have changed my password to the same password, at least it lets me do that. However it has been a while since I needed to because I found that linking around that works for me.

The most annoying thing is when I am making a long winded post and it times out, I click submit and it goes to wordpress and loses everything. I get around that by copying the long post before I submit them, just in case. Many forums time out, so it is nothing new to me.

I have no problems posting photos through my flickr account.

It would be good if the personal messaging thing worked on this site, @admin. That way we wouldn’t be hijacking someone’s critique thread. 😉

@valeryp: Thank you for asking. 🙂 I am in the same place, but crazy busy with family. I have a sick family member and suddenly all the kids want to come play at my house with my daughter (8) who is not permitted to run the streets. Most kids her age are around here, but they also get hit by cars and into more trouble. It is trying my patience, and leaves me little time for my hobby. lol

I like the lighting and the direct look. A crop from the left and top may improve the photo. When I shoot my cats indoors, I try to get a cleaner background or use a shallow depth of field to blur it more. The dof looks shallow here, but without exif info, I couldn’t say if the photo could have benefited from shallower or if you may have already been wide open on your camera.

I like the simple silhouette, the exact place where the sun is in the frame, and the amount of space in the above photo.

I took a minimalist approach to this shot. I find that the composition can make or break a minimalist photo.

This fly was only cleaning its face, but I think it kind of looks like it threw it’s forelegs up in resignation. lol

                                            Don't shoot.
