My preference would have been to isolated the surfer which would have removed the distracting guy behind. Oddly I feel inclined to glance over to him rather than at the action. It looks like a watercolor painting. As well as the line to the right, I would also suggest removing the small blue reflection at the front, that would make it appear much cleaner. I think it would look great on a large canvas over a fireplace.

I’m inclined to agree with @kagey1, the original photograph is breathtaking in its simplicity. The image that you invited comment on suffers from those paint splatters.
