      Hi @admin. Thanks for the compliment. It is taken at Steele Creek in North Carolina. Not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

      You can see it here full size:

        Yes @admin, I did save my gear. 🙂 I had everything packed away in my backpack. Except my tripod took some damage as I was carrying it and it slammed against the rocks.. ( I actually used it to help break my fall… unconsciously).

              @michael-lloyd, thanks for the comments and the critique! I have had several occasions as well. It is funny what we will do to get “the shot” lol. I have been on crutches the last few weeks, and the swelling and bruising is just going away. But I can’t use or extend my leg and foot. I will be doing some physical therapy to get range of motion back. It was a severe torn muscle and ligament. I was climbing the last few rocks and coming up over the hill, just in sight of camp when it happened. I was THAT close! Oh well. I think it is worth it. 🙂

              Be careful yourself!!

                      Thanks folks!! Great critique! I love it!

                      Here are the settings for this shot:

                      1.0 sec at f/22
                      ISO 50
                      34mm (Nikon 24-70 2.8 Lens)
                      Nikon D800
                      No polarizing filter
                      Shot just before dusk in deep shade, the sun off to the right in deep shade.

                      As far as vantage point, I was stuck on the rock, the water to the right and around me were heavier rapids, and probably shoulder deep or more. The only way out and off the rock was straight forward toward the falls. And it was really the only feasible angle to shoot from. I typically get in the water, and do shoot a lower perspective.

                      These are actually very small falls/cascades.

                      I understand the thoughts of the branch. I was divided on it myself, but it was there and I wasn’t going to tear it down. My thoughts are to shoot things as they are naturally (unless there is something unnatural like trash etc.) I was hoping the branch would lead peoples eyes down to the falls and spread their vision across them. Look like that didn’t work lol. 🙂

                      Here is the image full size. For evaluation purposes feel free to download (right click and save). It is a link directly to the image on the web.

                      It is a jpg file (he original is a tif, but VERY large. I think shrinking the jpg and seeing it small with condensed data has exaggerated a soft effect, and darkened the lighting around the edges. Although I did burn the edges a bit to shift focus toward the center of the image. Maybe too much. Especially when displayed smaller like the image here.

                      My intent is to make an image for a large print, and it translated well to print. I made a 24″ print to start and it was remarkably striking (at least I thought so. I sent it to a friend and they loved it)

                      I was thinking of printing a 54″ print, I think the detail and sharpness will hold up well for it. But if it isn’t a strong enough image, probably not. I like it yes, but I also want to make stuff that other people, especially knowledgeable people, will like. Cause if they do, then I figure there will be more folks that will fall into place. Like shooting for the stars, and everything less than that will be reached. Even though there are always stars further out you haven’t reached yet.

                      @caimi
                      please let me know your impressions of the full size image. If it still looks digitized, or if it is a result of the shrinking of a very high res image to a very much smaller one. Changes that @michael-lloyd is speaking about.

                      @claudia-betia
                      I am going to remove the stick and see. I had thought about it. Even taking it out before I shot the pic. But decided to leave it. It was there. Your impressions remind me to probably go with my gut instinct on some things. If I question something it is probably cause to pay more attention to it and follow my gut feelings, or explore them further before taking or finishing the image.

                      Still, any more thoughts you have or any one else has, please feel free to express. I am not easily offended. I am more interested in learning and improving my work.

                      Once this image has been exhausted I would like to throw another up and get feedback on it. I have a few I would like thoroughly critiqued.
