Allows Edits? Noyes that is how I feel too. Met a photographer in a group, he lives on a rural property surrounded by wetlands, a perfect natural setting for the wild birds. But he has set up his backyard so he can sit on his veranda, hidden behind a blind with his massive lens and takes perfect pictures of the birds, but not in their natural setting or habitat. He feeds the birds to encourage them into his perfect set up.
I have some great shots, not dissimilar to that photographer in the article. They are birds in their natural environment, there are no props or feeding to capture them.
I agree about the sameness too. So many similar captures they end up all looking the same.
I also notice many copycats, chasing the same theme. It is a great idea to give each an idea or a subject to pursue, but boring to the viewer.Elizabeth KilpatrickParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoI organised a group of people from a local Photography Club, and a tutor to teach us all about using Manual Mode with our DSLR Camera’s. I got it, at the first one hour lesson, then went out practicing everyday. The 2nd lesson was useful to learn from problems encountered in the practice sessions.
I had learnt stacks from just those two lessons, then basically put the theory into practice almost everyday for the next two months.
Other members were still stumped and needing lessons after 8 weeks. They did not practice or do their homework from each lesson. So it was purely all theory for them.
I ended up becoming almost bored with photography after so much practice.
I had also been concentrating on trying to capture the wild birds in flight.
I have since given up on that project, as I don’t want to buy larger lens more suited to that style of photography. I did capture some great shots with my 300 mm lens.
Then a friend showed my some shots she had achieved with a Sony HX300 with a 1600mm lens and 50x zoom. I thought this camera with the massive zoom, may solve the birds in flight problems. But this camera has Auto tracking which is a problem. Turn off auto tracking, easy, however if you want multiple shots, required for wild bird photography, then the auto tracking takes over again. This cheap camera at $500 has its pro’s and con’s, great for macro style and close up shots. Also good for long distance shots of larger subjects, like cattle etc. One can zoom them up very close with great detail and focus. It has been an interesting couple of months.
I have taken literally thousands of shots, and posted the better ones here at my Photography page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/EK-Photographic-Captures-Albury-Artist/1440764149469693?sk=photos_stream&tab=photos_albumsElizabeth KilpatrickParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoThis is just a gorgeous capture IMHO. A pure black horse, but the sun shows the colours in a different light, as red tones and blue tones.
A day out at the races, practicing using my camera in Manual Mode only.DSC_0096 (544×1280).jpg by Elizabeth Kilpatrick on Light Stalking

Allows Edits? NoBeen trying for ages to capture the tiny hairs in detail. Not many Bees around my patch, they are few and far between sightings theses days. Too many chemicals in use are wiping out the bees.

Allows Edits? NoBeauty lies in the eye of the beholder. What you see as beauty is not necessarily what the majority will see. Everyone sees things differently. If you are lucky enough you will find many people will agree with you, but many people will not.
It is much like the fable of the Blind Men and the Elephant. Each saw , or touched and felt something entirely different to the rest. None were wrong.
You should stay true to yourself, each of you are unique.
Unless you prefer to be a follower, like sheep and do the same as everyone else. Many of the rules today are designed for the followers, ie those people who desire to be the same as everyone else. They feel safe knowing they are all alike, they do the same as everyone else, they think that is the secret to become popular. The majority desire to be popular, and that covers around 95% of the population.
They do not dare to be different.
Only about 5% of the population are exceptional people. They dared to be different, they did not follow the mold, of what they should do.Elizabeth KilpatrickParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoSo I am back, but what a dogs breakfast it was, finally it accepted my name, but not the password, so I reset the password, then got 404 error message 3 times, closed page, opened it again assuming it would be under elizabeth1, where it has been allowing me in…..and surprise, surprise, it opened under the old account name…
one needs an awful lot of spare time and patience to access the site, unlike all the other sites where I log in, where it happens in a second.Elizabeth KilpatrickParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? NoOh, I don’t know, I tell the men if I think they are good looking, nothing wrong with that. Most men need their ego boosting at some stage. Anyway it is all such a temporary thing, as we all end up 6 feet under at some stage. but thank you anyway.

Allows Edits? NoAmazing, I was just reading David Tipling’s book-The birdwatcher’s guide to digital photography. He likes the blurred images of birds, in fact he states some of his best known shots show blurred wings. PS He is one of the world’s most famous Wildlife photographers, and won many international photography awards.
I note he uses a 500mm lens for the majority of his photos included in the book. Whoaa, I doubt I will ever delve that deep with the larger lens. I think I spotted another reference to one needs a 800mm lens if you are serious about wildlife photography. I find my current cameras and 300mm lens are very heavy to hold and carry.
A slightly different subject, on camera practice I shot this plate of Possum Food, to see what difference the Nikon D5200 would make in close ups.First shot is the Canon

Allows Edits? NoThank you, I was only there for less than half an hour until the card ran out. It did occur to me I should be there when they are feeding, in the early mornings, rather than the middle of the afternoon. But now I believe I was lucky, as they were having afternoon naps.
I was lucky I guess, all were just sitting around waiting for me to turn up. I did miss any flyers though. Pretty certain there is a large Honey Sucker or a Rosella. He sits on a tree near the entrance, but flys off asap when a human steps into his patch. I am not ready for the flyers yet, but one day. There is another wetlands where apparently the local photographers flock to, but it all looked too native for me ATM.
It is more like a bush walkers paradise, with walking and bike tracks only. I have yet to go to the local Hume Weir, (300klms in diameter) or to some other old horse riding spots that I know.
Anyway it is all practice and experiments.Elizabeth KilpatrickParticipant- Allows Edits: No

Allows Edits? No@falx I really enjoy the way you look at the subject in question and your very helpful advice. I think it would look awesome from a lower angle. I am taking your advice from all your posts to assist me in the future. Much appreciated. Cheers

Allows Edits? NoYes, but not being prepared for the shot, acting on the spur of the moment, then thinking ‘where is the camera’ does not count. That about sums it up for me, regards to thinking.

Allows Edits? NoI prefer a bit more space, between you and the camera, so it appears more passive, or less ‘in your face’ . But I am not a photographer.

Allows Edits? No@adkin, no I removed the picture, because I had uploaded some new photos, but they were not showing up in my album. I figured, as I got no response to my question, that there must be a limit to the number of files one is allowed to keep in the album. Accordingly I removed many photos, in order to add the new photos. Maybe you can clear this up for me, and for the forum generally.
