Wow. I love punchy, intense photos that push the limits of reality, as my blog will make clear enough, but I hate to say it, you’ve really overdone it here. Dial it back to about half way between what you’ve done and the original and you’ll have something.
I agree about the clouds being overexposed, but apart from that I have nothing to criticize. Nice job.
I don’t think there’s any real issue with the composition, but I do think you were just there at the wrong time of day…
It’s a nice photo, ncte colour, interesting subject but in my opinion the composition would be greatly improved if you chunk off the left side. I agree about the blue boat somewhat but if you cut it out I think it would be a net loss overall, so either live with it or it’s time for some Photoshop…
I wouldn’t change a thing, except that the horizon looks a bit crooked. A more contrasty treatment would look great (and, admittedly, is probably what I would have done), but this is just fine too.
I likethe photo, nice lighting, and I think you’ve done a great job of lifting the shadows. But… I am disappointed that the sunny area is completely blown out (or very close to it) and it appears that the midtones (the water) have been muddied a bit.
I am with @njk000 that logos are quite bothersome when trying to critique a photo.
Yes, I agree with him too. Nevertheless I do it for a reason, and I have no intention of changing my mind. I think people know this before they bring it up, so complaining about it is just obnoxious.
Well let’s be honest, this is just a snapshot of a coffee mug. If you clear our the clutter around it, turn the logo to face the camera, and be aware of where your shadows are landing, then you could have an interesting advertising type shot.
While the other view I liked but found difficult to focus on, this one is beautiful and has much better flow. The modern arhitecture is striking and the exposure is just right.
I am intrigued by this one. I am wondering if it would work a bit better if you your broke the rules and when for a symmetrical squre crop?
I keep going back and forth on that myself, on one hand I would prefer a wider crop, but I also realy love the layered effect of the waves and the way they transisiton from big a rought to gently rolling in on the shore. I’ve been down the Oregon coast twice, once in spring, and then again in late summer, it’s definitely somewhere I will need to revisit again.
Thanks Steve. The image is definitely sharp, but the reduced size version get’s blurred slightly by WordPress. If you click the image for the full size version it should be much sharper.
There is a lot of potential in the subject but if you want to succeed you’re either going to need to get higher, use a tilt-shift lens, or cheat and make use of perspective correction if photoshop.
if you have so much emotionally invested in the shot
What are you, a photo-psychologist now?
*eyerolls*
It’s a great shot. I’d crop out the left side very slightly to remove that little sliver of whatever it is as it is a bit distracting, but that’s my only nitpick. Please put whatever copyright notice your want on your photo, but note that putting it on the bottom unfortuantely doesn’t do a damn thing because thieves willjust crop that right out. It needs to be semi-trasparent and in the middle, unfortunately. If someone wants to enjoy your photo without a watermark they can buy a print and stop carping about it on the internet like an entitled baby, that’s my view anyway.
There’s nothing wrong with it, really, aside from it just simply being not a very intersting photo. Possibly some atmospheric haze going on too.
What ever the ghosting is in the centre, your mark or what ever, lose it.
No.
Thank you. While I agree with you to some degree (though not completely) about the cropping, unfortunately this is the best that could be accomplished from this location, given the many ugly distrations in the surrounding area. It does bother me to have the bridge nearly smack dab in the middle, but overall I still feel it was the best compromise.
Not seeing the green cast myself, but my colour choices are intentional so I’d leave it even if I did đŸ˜‰
Always fun to get another take on things.
@admin,
I think your caching plugin is causing major problems with the forums. I am getting 404 errors and out of date pages that can only be fixed by hard refresh (ctrl f5), even when I’m logged in.
There was Exif data, yes.
