This one comes with a story – 26 day ago this horse went missing from our yard, and today a distant neighbor spotted him, caught him, and called me. Just after we got him home, the rainbow appeared.

Our new puppy
Lots more raptor impressions around, bald eagles to be precise, but this is the most impressive one. No evidence of small game. They were definitely watching my cattle and are prime suspects in a calf death.
There were several of them feeding, and my suspicion is that this impression results from a fight amongst themselves.
iPhone 5s – SOOC. Any guesses as to who has been harassing my cattle?
She looks like she feels the way I do about goats – they’re cute, but not sure how close I want to get!
Thank you Robert, Bruce, and Tersha – it was a memorable trip 🙂
Not exactly what I had in mind for this shot, but 8 hyper kids were a little too much for me that day!
Thanks for the input everyone. I definitely was trying to preserve some of the background elements, because it gives a sense of the place we were at, a historical town in the region. But I do like your crop, Tobie, for bringing the girl into a more prominent place in the  image. Not sure if I can get away with cropping that much, sharpness-wise, though.
As far as the black marks I’m stumped, as it seems to be my software that created them. I shall keep trying!
I call him our 100 Acre Dog – he’s far more content there than in our small yard at home.
Thanks, Kent
Thanks, Chris
Yes, for posts here referring to a specific image it doesn’t matter if I have irrelevant photos, but for people who are Flickr regulars and like to see the latest images posted by friends, I don’t particularly want to display photos of my EGR valve or transmission filter 🙂
I don’t  post a lot of photos there so I haven’t seen the need to organize them into albums, but I’m not sure that doing so would solve my issue.
Tobie – I wasn’t happy with what the sliders were doing to the image as a whole, and isolating the deer from the grass is somewhat beyond me at this point. But truly, the grass colour is quite close to what I see out my window.
Okay, so I think part of my problem is that I’m slow! I’m calling this version 2.0, and I’m much happier with it. I used Affinity this time, and most of the colour correction comes from adjusting the white balance. A little sharpening, and that’s all I’ve done.
Maybe one day I’ll figure out how to make my grass look darker, but it’s actually pretty accurately rendered. Fertilizer might be my best bet 🙂
Thanks guys for the feedback. I actually chose this one because of the pose – she was walking toward us and trying to figure out what we were. The “better” ones were a lot less interesting
And I definitely agree with you about the presets – I decided to go with this as a baseline and will work on adjustments from here. Post processing is the area I am least confident in, and I’m looking forward to diving in again. Kent, your Fundamental Editing book will be open on my desktop 🙂
I can see why this would be a top contender. The empty sections of sky and sand make a nice spot for adding text. I like the repeated colours from the chute to the sail boat to the colourful blanket/clothing of the person on the beach. “Mazatlan” on the chute leaves no doubt as to the location.
I’m sure it’s not your intention, but I find my eyes drawn to the patterns in the sand; it would have been nice if there was a little more water in the frame. The large area of white buildings behind the chute don’t add to the image.
